discussion Jail bonds

I noticed under the same person showing 1 charge on the jail roster it says $500 bond and also no bond. Can someone explain what this means? I noticed it on a few inmates at the county jail.

discussion Car registration and titling for expired out of state car

My partner lived in South Carolina, suffered a stroke, and moved to North Carolina some years ago. Maintaining the registration/tags on their car was not at the forefront until now.

As of today: The car has been paid off. The company they financed the car with sent the title to an old address in South Carolina and we have never had it. The company then sent us a lien release to our address in North Carolina.

The car was previously registered in South Carolina. They have been expired for 6 years.

My partner has North Carolina insurance on the car, the insurance never lapsed.

The old registration to the car was lost some odd years ago.

We have not had the car inspected, but hoped to get it done in North Carolina.

My partner has a North Carolina drivers license, but with their first address in NC - not our current one.

Last but not least, just recently they got a fix-it ticket here in NC. The officer said to handle everything by the court date.

What steps should we take to rectify this situation, and in what order? Will we be required to go to South Carolina to get a duplicate title/pay the taxes/get a registration card/etc., or can everything be handled in NC? Any help is appreciated.

discussion How to Live on a Farm if I'm Poor?

This is a silly question but the title says it all.

Are there people who rent campers or tiny homes on there farm for long term rentals in NC? I know there are plenty of places that offer airbnbs and whatnot but I would probably want a 12 month lease and not to have to pay crazy airbnb prices.

I am wondering if anyone knows of farms in the area that offer something of the sorts. I know its a long shot but I thought I'd try

discussion Raleigh recommendations

We just moved to NC in March, currently in kernersville, but building in Burlington. My parents(73yo) are coming down to visit next week. We plan to stop by our house to show them and then they want to see the capital, so we are driving into Raleigh. I figure we have an afternoon to do some site seeing. Anything people suggest checking out on a first trip? I was only in Raleigh once for work like 20 years ago, none of the others have been there.

Nothing real active(they are in their 70's but some shorter walks or parks would work).

Thanks.

discussion According to this map, North Carolina is in three regions of the U.S.

Tidewater = Raleigh and most of the northern part of the state is included in this region. This region was primarily shaped by English settlers and is historically known for tobacco planters. It also covers the eastern half of Virginia and goes as far north as Maryland.

Deep South = Wilmington and most of the southern part of the state is located in this region. This region was primarily shaped by slavery, large scale plantation agriculture, and largely supported secession before the Civil War. It also covers most of South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, etc.

Greater Appalachia = Charlotte and the western part of the state is located in this region. This region was primarily shaped by Scots-Irish settlers with individualistic and conservative attitudes. It also covers most of Tennessee, Kentucky, and goes as far north as the Midwest and as far west as Texas.

Would y'all say this is accurate today? It's from a book titled American Nations and the link is below.

discussion Can I keep my VA inspection if I get NC plates?

I just moved a week ago, got my license, and going soon to get my plates. I was wondering do I have to reinspect my vehicles? Do I do inspection first or get plates first? Can I go somewhere that will give me a NC inspection without looking at the vehicle again? I’m not sure how this all works.

Update: thanks everyone!

discussion Car in wife's name, can I go in and renew the tags for her?

As the title says, can I renew the tags for her? They are pretty expired and it will not work when trying online. So if I go in will they let me do it?

Edit: I was allowed to do it, no issue.

discussion Fiancé and I are considering a move to NC!

Would love any and all opinions, what you wished you’d known before moving there, best city/burb to live in, really anything you are willing to share!

For background: we are both 30 this year, I just graduated with my MBA and he works for a municipality where we currently live so hoping it won’t be too difficult to find jobs/relocate

TIA ✨

discussion RDS Question

I was living in NC with my family since August of 2022, as an International Student attending a CC. I have completed a year and a half of CC and I recently had a change of status in March. I now have my Permanent Resident Card, so i’m no longer on a student visa.

Would I be able to qualify for In-State Tuition?

discussion Camp grounds in NC!

Hey yall, CLT girly here...

My fiancé and I want to pick up tent camping as a hobby, and eventually bring our dog. I'm looking for recommendations on camp grounds that are safe and comfortable in terms of everyone feeling welcomed. We are AA so we just want to be somewhere that doesn't feel like we're not wanted, especially in the woods or secluded areas.

Maybe near a beach, or somewhere near water?

Thanks for the recommendations 🫶🏾

discussion Winston-Salem to Raleigh

Hi, I’m currently looking at areas around North Carolina to move to and was wondering what it’s like and the major differences between Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Raleigh and Durham. I’ve lived in Madison, Wi most of my life and love the size (272,000 people) and the suburbs that surround it. The biggest things I’m wondering about it 1) safety (if there’s certain areas to avoid in any of the cities and overall crime in each city. I’m used to gang activity related crimes from previous places I’ve lived but random crimes are more worrisome for me) 2) social scenes in each city (I’m a 22 F and am hoping to find things to do besides just going out and drinking but still want to live somewhere with a decent night life 3) affordability when comparing wages to prices of things (groceries, activities, commutes to do these things). Any input regarding these or just person experiences would be greatly appreciated! - I do also love cities that have more smaller towns and suburbs with their own vibes (one of my favorite things is to do day trips and explore there). - having a good sense of community is also a big thing for me so if any of these areas have a noticeable reputation for a lack of community interest (or the smaller surrounding communities) that would be amazing to know! Thank you!

discussion New at this

Hello, does anyone know if I can use my Registration renewal Notice to get an inspection? I completely lost my registration but someone suggested to me to use my notice, I just want to know if that’s possible before going anywhere. I’ve looked everywhere online but i’m not getting a straight answer.

discussion Trying get my name added to a car title

Hey so I was wondering if it's possible to get my name added to the title my car which is still under my dad's name. For reference I'm currently stationed in California and the car is with me. It saids in the DMV website all that has to happen is to have him bring in the title and a copy of my license for documentation needed.
