Did a search and nothing came up. Is there a place to buy or collect firewood to make a (permitted) fire on the beach? I understand we shouldn’t bring wood from our home.

Hey Ocracokers! My wife and I recently adopted two teens that learned about ocracoke and want to come visit. We were hoping to come done August 12-15 but everything seems booked/expensive. Are there any churches or alternative housing that anyone knows of?

Are there any updates on construction here? I have searched here and other groups across platforms and only updates were from the end of last year. In maps it says permanently closed. I hope that is not true. We always loved hanging out there listening to Willis Gupton (RIP) sadly he has sailed off to the great paradise in the sky. Please let me know if they are still planning on rebuilding or if it is now no longer possible.

Hi, I’ve done research for years on end now and im desperate enough at this point to make it my first Reddit post. How does a small family of three ever make it to the ocracoke/ Hatteras area?? My boyfriend, toddler son and I love this area and have for years. Jobs are no issue for us, but I literally can never find any luck with rentals that are at least offering a few months. Is buying a house truly our only option? TIA!

What is the night life on Ocracoke like? For 30 somethings? Do people do anything!

We were down in Hatteras in October and the wait times for the ferry were crazy long, like peak season. Has the ferry stayed this busy, or did we just catch an odd week when everyone wanted to go to Ocracoke?

Are electric scooters allowed in the village? I’ve seen plenty of electric bikes but I don’t remember seeing any electric scooters.

Hi everyone! I first fell in love with Ocracoke as a teen but haven't been back in at least a decade.

I'd love to stay with my family for a week in August but I am unclear on how we will access the beaches. We don't have four wheel drive and I read that parking is limited. Can we safely bike to beaches from the village? Are there beaches within the village where we can take a golf cart? (Read that golf carts just stay within the village.)

I'm going to be staying in a house on silver Lake with a dock for the next week or so, and I was wondering if it's worth the time to throw a line into Silver Lake. Something simple like a shrimp on a hook and a bobber that I can let lazily hang there while I enjoy a beer in the sunrise or sunset.

amazing sunset taken from the middle of Pamlico Sound on the way from Swan Quarter to Ocracoke. it was just me and maybe four other vehicles on the ferry. it was an amazing experience. i love the little island here and would love to go again!

Hey guys - I'm planning a trip up for a few nights around the 4th. What can one expect around the island during this time? Is there a firework show? Is it super crowded?

I'm also looking to surf while I'm there. I haven't found much info out about it other than, like any spot, it has its days. Is there a specific area or end of the island that's better for surfing in summer?

I’m planning to visit the island on Monday April 15. I will be taking the ferry from Hatteras in the morning. Would appreciate any intel on whether I’ll be likely facing a wait if I tried to get on the 9am ferry this time of year. Question: Is there a time of day when the ponies are more likely to be visible from the parking lot viewing area?

I keep seeing reports from NCDOT that NC 12 is getting inundated at high tide at one part out between the Hatteras ferry station and the Pony Pens. Is it unusual for it to have problems this much? We come out every year, and you expect it to be possible when there's tropical activity offshore, but this is the first time I've heard of it being this bad.

I'm interested in camping on Ocracoke, live in Apex, NC, and would appreciate any suggestions for a low cost option to travel to the island by air from a small airport along the flight path between Apex (Raleigh) and Ocracoke.
