Took the family out on the river Sunday and rolled up on this small bear chugging along. He wasn’t phased by us at all. Been out on this river hundreds of times and this was a first.

discussion Tenant Rights: Landlord charging MTM after move-out

I emailed my previous landlord (big apartment complex managed by a large property management firm) on 4/30 that I would be 'moving in June and would not be renewing my lease for the next year'. My lease went until the end of June, 6/29. They require 60 day notice.

After I said I was moving and would not be renewing my lease, they asked the exact move out date, and I said I was not sure because I did not have movers yet, but I would let them know when I had it set.

When I emailed them the exact date a few weeks later, they said that I had not properly given them 60 day notice, and that they would be charging me month-to-month rent for July (over $2000). I sent them the email from 4/30. They said they needed an exact move-out date and would not budge on the MTM charge.

Is this right? What should I do? Do I pay it? Do I lawyer up? Thanks!

My wife and I are planning our first trip to North Carolina this August and would love some advice! We're flying in from Nebraska and will be staying for about 3 to 4 days. We're trying to decide which city to visit and would appreciate your recommendations.

  4. Asheville
  5. Nags Head
  6. Or is there another city with a good-sized airport that you think we should consider?

discussion Marriage and legal name change question

About to get married, and my partner is planning on changing their last name to mine. We also need to change their first and middle names legally, and found out that we have to do that outside of marriage.

If we change her last name to mine via marriage, will we have to update her ID/social/etc *before* changing her legal first and middle name? or would it be easier to marry and her keep her current last name, then change her full name all-at-once?

I hope this makes sense. We had planned for changing her name all at once and found out last minute it's last name & middle-name-to-former-last-name only :/

Somehow, I’ve misplaced my birth certificate. When I went to purchase one, I’m seeing that the processing time for a birth certificate is 13-15 months! WTF! Is there only one person working in North Carolina? How can that be? More than a year to get a copy of my birth certificate. And I can find no way to expedite it. I can’t get a passport without it and there goes my European trip. Please, does anyone know of any way to expedite this. It’s just crazy!

discussion Miserable weather only getting worse

I’ve lived in NC my entire life and always tended to suffer through the summers. I feel like it’s getting worse and worse every year and I fear that with climate change we’re going to be boiling a decade from now. My partner and I love this state but are already talking about moving to a colder place when we’re financially able to. This place will always have my heart but the summers are just too much unfortunately. Anyone else dealing with this?

For the life of me I can’t seem to find the specs listed anywhere. Just the basics like lights, tires, brakes, etc.

Surely it must be listed somewhere online, right?

Just had a shop fail me for having a plug in my tire which blew my mind. I was able to look up in 30 seconds that it’s fine in my prior state as long as it’s in the tread; not the sidewall. Just curious what the actual regulation is here.

How about we give Boeing back to the people and fix that mess? A little seizing of the musk, Zuckerberg, and bezos assets sounds pretty good too. A little UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE and seizing all insurance companies for the people.
