TIFU by making my child vegetarian. S

I have a 6 year old son. We went to a fair a few months ago and there was a display of livestock that the public could pet.

Me, trying to be jolly, told him that he'd be eating them for dinner someday.

My son was shocked and asked me how was that possible. I told him that meat is made by killing animals and cooking them. He then asked me what all the meats were. I told him that it's chicken, beef, steak, sausages, salami and mutton.

Later that night at home, I noticed him seperating his dinner. He removed all the meat pieces from the rice and only ate the rice. My wife asked him what was wrong and he said he doesn't want to eat animals.

Thankfully, he's fine with milk and eggs. However, he continued refusing to eat any meat. A week passed and we went to the doctor. The doctor said that it's probably just a temporary phase and we should feed him vegetarian alternatives for the time being.

We now buy canned beans, lentils, greek yoghurt, olive oil, whey protein, soy nuggets and plant-based patties/sausages. We also order a cheese pizza for him.

It's been a few months now, and I've bought iron and B12 gummies for him. Even my wife and I are starting to go more vegetarian.

TL;DR: We went to a fair and there was a display where the crowd could pet livestock. I told my son he'd eat those animals soon, and he's a full blown vegetarian now.

"no cows are hurt or killed when making milk" that's a convenient lie. Milk doesn't come from a farmer sitting with a bucket.

Shocking amount of grown adults who really think dairy cows just live in luxury for 20 years long after their production slows until they die of a natural death lmao

You mean cows aren't an all-female species that reproduce magically? And they don't willingly walk themselves to the milking machine while singing about how much they love humans? Nah mate, that's vegan propaganda

And no one ask what happens to the males of dairy cows and egg hens in species that have a ~50/50 sex ratio even though only the females are considered economically useful. Just plaster a picture of a big open field on the label and call it a day

What males? Bulls are a different species (they also reproduce asexually, magically) and sometimes they come singing to a big Ronald McDonald statue and give little packets of their meat as gifts :)

Nah at the end of their production they get slaughtered into some of the most delicious beef I've ever had. Double aged dairy beef is amazing.

Have you tried dog though? Something about eating an animal you've loved for it's whole life just makes the meat fall off the bone

You act as if I wouldn't eat dog or cat if it was offered to me. I've had bugs, snakes, alligator, bison, elk, bear, deer, guinea pig, you name it I've probably tried it or want to try it some time in my life. So your appeal to emotion fallacy doesn't work here.

No I really love dog meat. But human is the best. As long as I can kill it, clean it, and eat it, it's what's for breakfast!

"As long as I can kill it, clean it, and eat it, it's what's for breakfast!" Yes, what's so hard to understand about this? We're omnivores.

I'd try human too. Want to start with you?

I only hunt hunters and their family. They're easy prey. Catch me if you can!

Insufferable vegan.

I like how you come crying to someone about how good dairy beef tastes and then go on to call someone insufferable.

It depends which farms you are receiving milk from. Most farms ARE literally a farmer sitting with a bucket. Most independent farmers are very kind to their cattle. especially their dairy cows. Like the cows will literally come up to you in order to be milked. The calf is then raised till the end of its life to become either a breeding bull, meat, or be another dairy cow (depending on male or female mainly). What you are referencing is the huge multibillion dollar operations. These are the minority. Small family owned farms are the huge majority, like its not even close.

This was the first result when I googled "are cows harmed or killed on a dairy farm". Give it a read, let me know what you think.

I just followed your advice to do a quick Google. I've visited plenty of dairy farms to know how cows are treated, but it seemed you didn't know. Let me know which part of the article you believe is a lie.

Yes, our culture has really given cows, pigs, and chickens the proverbial shaft to supply demand for cheap meats and cheeses.

It is not fair enough. Don't listen to this person they have no idea what they are talking about. 98% of farms are family owned and operate like the one I worked on. Dairy cows are treated incredibly well. It is the minority to treat our animals bad. The examples they give are the cherry picked factory farms that are the vast minority. Literally every farmer I know is against these factory farming practices. If you treat your cattle horribly people won't do business with you, its as simple as that.

How are you still here? Getting paid for this? Post a link, not a "trust me bro". I've found exactly zero corroboration when it comes to your story, and I've visited over half of the dairy farms in my state.
