AMA [COMIC SPOILERS] Hey! Ryan Ottley here, artist and contributing creator of the Invincible series! AMA!
THIS POST WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRE INVINCIBLE COMIC RUN! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!
EDIT: That's it for today, thanks so much for the great questions, everyone! - 💙 the Skybound team
Hey! Ryan Ottley here, artist and contributing creator of the Invincible series! I became the series' primary artist in the same year that Invincible started back in 2003, and stayed until we concluded the book in 2018 with issue 144. I am an owner and creator of the world of Invincible, co-creating many characters and locations and enjoyed the day to day grind of a monthly series, from my 20’s to my 40’s, Invincible was and is still a huge part of my life.
Now I’m a creative consultant on the Amazon prime show and still love the property more than ever. It will always be my main defining project, the one most important to me.
After Invincible I moved on to Marvel and did a run on Amazing Spider-man, and then a run on Hulk. Now I’m back at image comics doing what I love most, creator owned comics!
I’m here to answer your questions, ask away! I’ll do my best! Proof: https://i.imgur.com/qmugjBE.jpeg

COMIC SPOILERS I hope we get more one-on-one conversations between these two in the show. I think the dynamic between them is interesting

COMIC SPOILERS How do you feel about how ... died? (Comic spoiler)
I'm talking about Cecil, just didn't want to have his name in the title.
I always knew he was going to die, it wasn't spoiled for me I just refused to believe that a man like Cecil would survive invincible and I was right. That being said when Rex killed Cecil, I was shocked and told myself that Cecil didn't deserve to go out that way. But then I thought about it and realized it was literally the perfect way for him to die.
Cecil was always someone willing to do whatever it took to keep earth safe but even he had his limits that he would never even consider he had. Rex was exactly the same except he would have pushed Cecil past his limit and would never join Rex which is why Rex killed Cecil first. I know Rex told Mark that Cecils death was on his hands but I don't think that Cecil would have killed any hero just because they might have gone against his orders after all he didn't even try to hurt mark after the disaster with the T-rex (I can't remember his name) Even Sinclair refused to side with Rex. If you disagree with my opinion on if Cecil would have joined Rex let me know.
It's because of this that Cecil died the way he deserved, by being killed by a man willing to do whatever it takes to keep earth safe but Rex was willing to go way further than Cecil wasn't capable of.
That being said, i think the way Rex killed Cecil wad a bit much. Slicing his throat then smashing his head, I don't know if that was deserved.
What do you think?

DISCUSSION “Who says you have to ? You don’t have to be the greatest Omni Man ever, you just have to be the greatest you” God I love that line 😭

Honestly one of my favorite scenes in the whole show. You can see just how much anger and frustration Mark was in trying to live up to his dad. But Debbie takes it all away with just that one line. And Mark thanked her because it took genuinely took such a HUGE weight off his shoulders. Such a healthy mother son relationship I honestly LOVE all their scenes together. They are always so wholesome. You can just always feel the love between these two.

COMIC SPOILERS Does he really have a soft side?
Out of all the shocking pages and panels throughout the entire series, this was one of the more surprising ones to me, though I doubt Thragg was actually being sincere here. I’d imagine he was most likely just manipulating Ursaal into thinking that he actually cares for her, just so he can keep one of his most powerful children/soldiers on his side.

COMIC SPOILERS I just re-read issues 48-63 and my god is S3 about to be Peak!
From Oliver getting his powers to Nolan/Allen breakout with Battlebeast and the reveal of Viltrumites being endangered. Then we got Cecil fight, we got Blue suit Mark. A bunch of great Eve/Mark moments! Mark going to the future to kill Immortal. We got Powerplex. We get Wolf-Man, Titan.
And of course the season ends with Invincible War and then Conquest!

COMIC SPOILERS Am I the only one who liked this arc?
It just seems like everyone who mentions this arc doesn’t like it, but it was one of my favorite parts of the whole comic run

THEORY SOS (Spouses of Superheroes) Return?
Do you think will ever see Theo and SOS again in the upcoming season. The show has a habit of bringing back small storylines and I feel even it's just one episode there could be interesting conflict that comes from it. Given that Theo knows Debbie is Omni man's wife, this could come back to haunt her later on if him or someone else from the group decides to take out their grief on either her or mark. That or maybe a villain kills them all in a really gruesome way.

COMIC SPOILERS Why was [spoiler] unaware of his own lineage?
gallerySurely had Nolan known if he was the descendant of Argall he would have lead the Viltrumites far sooner right? Did he not know who his own parents were?

DISCUSSION Season 2 Episode 2
Okay, we all remember that scene where Atom Eve fixes that screwed up plot of land, turning it into a public park. And then it gets revealed later that it was on unstable land? Call me crazy, but shouldn’t her powers fixed the stability? I mean she was literally rewriting the atoms of the land. Why wouldn’t it make the ground stable?

COMIC SPOILERS Invincible Fighting Game
If Netherealm or some other company made an Invincible fighting game with 24 characters slots (show and comic) who would you choose? (Up to 6 for DLC)

DISCUSSION Imagine an invincible soulslike from the pov of battle beast
I know not everyone here plays video games but if you do and you play any fromsoft games(elden ring, sekiro, dark souls, etc) or soulslikes you could imagine how fun this would be. It would actually fit the flow very well since battle beast just wants to fight whoever is strongest. This would be an invincible game i would actually buy and play.

COMIC SPOILERS How heavy can a planet's gravity be before a Viltrumite would struggle to move?
I was skimming over some wiki stuff, and saw that the Viltrumite home world apparently has gravity 25% greater than Earth. They presumably can fight and fly just fine there, of course. But the Rognarr seemed capable of moving fast and fluidly on their world in Episode 7, yet Nolan was clearly so weighed down that he struggled to get off the ground by himself to fly and had to use the jetpack, although that may just be the in-universe set up for that scene in his book and not really how hard it was.
Regardless, the gravity on the Rognarr world isn't so high that they can't move. They can walk just fine and their movements just seemed encumbered, clearly drawing down Nolan's physical strength due to how hard it was to move. But, do we have any idea how heavy that world's gravity actually was?
And from that, how heavy do you guys think it would need to be for a Viltrumite to start struggling?

COMIC SPOILERS What is the worst thing that [spoiler] has ever said/done?
Aside from committing genocide countless times, I think the worst thing he’s done is use his own children as weapons against Mark.

DISCUSSION Just finishing the final issue.
Wow did I really love this comic. After watching season 2 I knew I had to get the compendium’s and man they did not disappoint. What an ending. Eve and Mark will go down as my favorite superhero characters of all time.
