When I was introduced to the Internet several decades ago, I was excited. I thought that easy access to limitless amounts of information would mean that people wouldn't be stupid enough to believe in things like "black magic".

Every day, I'm proven more and more wrong.

Yeah I think the only hope this reality has is time travel to unfuck everything. Either that or a global reset via God level disaster.

Have you considered that people don’t believe it, that the main advocates are using superstition to validate doing something unconscionable?

The only people who believe in this are uneducated idiots.

This is clearly a political move to throw in prison somebody who didn't agree with a dictator. Everybody knows it's a hoax, but what you gonna do? Protest and get killed?

I’m reminded of a middle school debate assignment in which I was apparently the one so completely wrong about the internet. I got to be the lone voice who pointed out the stupidity floating around on it. But you get a bunch of nerdy 14 year olds on the concept of “the exchange of ideas and culture” and they won’t budge. Well over a decade later and I’m vindicated.

The fact that the quran & the hadith mentioned that their prophet Muhammad believes that "black magic" could harm people makes most muslims defaulted to "our prophet said it's real so yup black magic is real" mindset since Muslims treat their 1200+ year old dead prophet's words as the truth.

The Maldives is a religious state that mandates adherence to Islam. Its literally illegal to wear a bikini except for on a handful of specific beach locations (and only for tourists).

This isn’t a new thing for that part of the world though. Belief in witchcraft and black magic just never died out in a lot of places.

I have been wondering

Legally, should attempt at "black magic" to someone be considered a threat of violence?

IMO, if the intent is genuine and the intended harm is grievous, then yes.

Just like a failed assassination attempt is a crime, a failed assassination (or bewitching or whatever) attempt using black magic should still be a crime. The fact that it couldn't have succeeded anyway is irrelevant if the aggressor genuinely thought it could.
