Wait until you hear her speak. I honestly don't care that she's heavy; shes such an insufferable twat. A real feminist wouldn't tell other women how much cake they're allowed to eat, Virgie.

Good lord, wtf is that video? Not only is her voice really annoying, but condescending.

66

u/tonguefucktoby 3d ago

Condescending describes the entirety of her being..

23

u/N0tInKansasAnym0r3 3d ago

Welcome to Forbes

11

u/possiblyai 3d ago

I thought it was pretty funny. It has to be tongue in cheek. Tell me itā€™s tongue in cheek. No seriously. Tell me

5

u/Professional-Hat-687 3d ago

A little, maybe? This is her bread and butter as an author and journalist though, and stuff like this article and that video are par for the course with her. I think the most likely scenario is she figured out she can get money for saying shit like this on the internet and is running a grift.

1

u/dutsi 3d ago

Referring to her is the first time I can accurately use the word 'insufferable'.

73

u/Mmortt 4d ago

Good grief I did not need to know this existed.

134

u/IMadeThisSoICanLurk 4d ago

Jesus Christ. Sheā€™s so obsessed with what other people think of her she canā€™t enjoy the piece of cake she wants to enjoy without everyone else eating the same amount? Not everyone likes to eat a fuckton of cake you stupid idiot. Not everyone even likes cake. Jesus fuck.

Can you imagine not realizing that youā€™re literally sending the opposite message of what you ā€œintendedā€ with this video?

75

u/roast-tinted 3d ago

Yeah I'm a dude and I don't like cake. I still bake/buy them for my family but I don't partake. I prefer a whole ass block of chocolate to myself, yet if I so no thanks I'm fat phobic? These people have no real adversity in their lives and have to come up with some way to be the victim for that sweet sweet sympathy

25

u/every_name-istaken 3d ago

You misunderstand. That doesnā€™t makes you fat phobic. It makes you fat phobic and sexist.

17

u/Professional_Echo907 3d ago

Iā€™m fucking fat and I love cake but you donā€™t have to make it your entire goddamned existence, Virgie. šŸ‘€

3

u/CrumblingDragonballs 3d ago

But you see, some people LITRALLY HAVE NOTHING ELSE

1

u/Pika_Squish_127 3d ago

That's the one thing I takeaway from alot of the people in the fat acceptance community, is that being fat is their whole personality. Every tiktok/reel is only about being fat šŸ˜‚. Like do you have no hobbies?

3

u/Magenta_Logistic 3d ago

I would love to see her reaction to a video from a skinny girl entitled: "No, you can't have a bigger slice of cake."

Just stop telling other people what/how much to eat.

3

u/Timely-Youth-9074 3d ago

I always say smaller because I donā€™t like a lot of cake-itā€™s too sweet. Iā€™m not really thin or anything either.

2

u/sentence-interruptio 3d ago

villain: "eat this cake."

woman not hungry: "sorry no."

villain: "then you are being oppressed by yourself. my minions will force you to be free now."

little minions begin to restrain the not hungry woman. "wtf let me go. my choice my body remember?", she says.

villain shows off a feeding tube and begins to laugh like a psycho.

2

u/keithperaza 3d ago

Youā€™re kidding me. What I just saw someone got paid to createā€¦ man this country is in serious trouble. You need to be real with yourself. Eating yourself to obesity or even close to it is clearly an issue in large part of not all due to cultural and dietary differences to that of literally every other country. Iā€™m all for the war on fat though love the people underneath and sure some stuff is medical or from age even then. Sheā€™s delusional šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļøAND she wonā€™t allow comments on that video

24

u/Stucklikegluetomyfry 3d ago

Also that cake looks pretty disgusting. Like, fine for an eight year old's birthday party but not for a middle aged woman to be so obsessed over that she takes it as a personal insult if you don't want a big slice.

6

u/CarrieWhiteDoneWrong 3d ago

As an old lady, I am here to say all cake is pretty great. Even bad cake is a delicacy after two or three manhattans. Which, consequently is the fuel I think Tovar is running on with her backhanded support and dead grandma clothes. CAKE FOR EVERYONE

3

u/Classic_Impact5195 3d ago

thats the kind of cake i eat out of politness to not offend the birthday kid. But only a very small slice.

1

u/Stucklikegluetomyfry 3d ago

I probably would eat a little bit then crumble up the rest in the napkin and discretely bin it.

38

u/roast-tinted 3d ago

Wow she is a narcissist. She thinks people all like cake all the time? I don't ever really eat cake but I don't eat particularly healthy, it's just not something I enjoy. So I'm fat phobic if I ask for no cake? This woman has never faced the real world obviously.

40

u/IknowwhatIhave 3d ago

That sounds an awful like the Christian anti-gay bigots who assume that every man has the same "sinful temptations" as they do, when actually they are just gay and repressed.

19

u/williamtkelley 4d ago

It's got to be a parody, right?

24

u/Professional-Hat-687 3d ago

She is very serious and one of the pillars of the fat activism movement. A well known crazy.

9

u/uncle_flacid 3d ago

Fat activism. Fuck, if this shit would've existed when I was fat I would've been ashamed of being fat.

0

u/FirstChurchOfBrutus 3d ago

I donā€™t think sheā€™s crazy in this vid. Sheā€™s incredibly self-centered, but not crazy.

2

u/Friendly-General-723 3d ago

The presentation seems tongue in cheek to me but I couldn't relate much so I quit halfway. Is it an American thing that someone cuts your cake for you? Here we all cut our own, so its as small a slice as you want it.

1

u/Professional-Hat-687 3d ago

It's not that uncommon for someone to be manning the cake at a party and cutting several pieces, letting people pick which piece they want. It's equally common for this person to ask their coworkers/friends how big a piece they want. At an office or large birthday party it's just easier to have one person with the knife, or let a parent choose how big the slices are for the children at the party.

17

u/DoubleAGee 4d ago

Gross.

8

u/Technical-Banana-498 3d ago

Goddamn that whole video reeked of Iā€™m so quirky and condescending energy

13

u/gecko80108 4d ago

DEAR GOD

6

u/Mwilk 3d ago

Comments are surprisingly turned off.

11

u/Vtgmamaa 3d ago

She makes me want to diet.

4

u/frenchinhalerbought 3d ago

That made me laugh

9

u/Aedrieus 3d ago

The way she describes herself as a "fat activist"... yup, definitely the only thing active about her.

4

u/BenderDeLorean 3d ago

Mark it as nsfl man

2

u/ThisIsSteeev 3d ago

Is this a parody of something?

2

u/oan124 3d ago

she lost me at fat activist (3 seconds in) i mean i guess she's fat, and if you squint you could call her an activist

2

u/szudrzyk 3d ago

i lasted 19 seconds. i feel like it took 50 minutes.

2

u/Khaleesi1536 3d ago

Good lord sheā€™s unbearable

2

u/Taran345 3d ago

F**king hell! Sheā€™s like the Karenest of Karens!

Within seconds of her starting to talk, I was expecting her to start demanding to speak to the manager!

2

u/RC_world 3d ago

CRFI - coke related fuckup incident

2

u/Embarrassed_Band_512 3d ago

On my god that was the worst thing I've ever watched, she is horrible.

2

u/SomeRedditName13 3d ago

Why would comments be turned off? Shouldn't we all have a say?

2

u/FirstChurchOfBrutus 3d ago

a) What is she doing with her eyebrows? Itā€™s like theyā€™re on pogo sticks.

b) I have never heard someone complain about how much (or little) another person eats in their presence. Jesus, lady, just bc someone wants less cake, it doesnā€™t have to be about you at all.

2

u/Neat-Opportunity1824 3d ago

"comments are turned off" is a clear sign :)

2

u/sinkshitting 3d ago

Yeah nah. Kill it with fire. Wtaf?

6

u/Rizo1981 4d ago

I got as far as her saying her name in the intro before I had to backspace TF out. Twat activist maybe.

6

u/TheInfamousDingleB 4d ago

unfortunately Iā€™m invested in this debate and can confirmā€¦.the facial expressions. I mean EVEN HER HANDS are fat.

1

u/Obandigo 3d ago

Fuck You, for putting this in my ear holes!

1

u/Robertgarners 3d ago

You're having a go at.me.because I rational limits for my own health and safety?! I don't drink 20 pints of beer as I know I'll probably throw up, I don't keep on eating more than I want or need as I don't need it and don't enjoy it. Most people aren't greedy. Get over it.

2

u/Professional-Hat-687 3d ago

Many fat activists consider not eating past fullness to be a moral failing. It's very strange.

1

u/Antique_Ad4497 3d ago

I only just got through ā€œHi! Iā€™m award winningā€¦ā€ and I turned off. Ugh! šŸ˜†

1

u/IDontCondoneViolence 3d ago

But is she a real scottsman?

1

u/Weeblifter 3d ago

Of course the comments are turned off. Look, Iā€™m a big dude myself and I find these sorts insufferable. Itā€™s ok to partake in a burger and some fries but as my girlfriend calls it, thatā€™s ā€œsometimes foodsā€ and for her to pull the tactics she does is wild.

1

u/lowpaidsalaryman 3d ago

Damn, she applied pavlovian techniques with this clicks sounds in her speech.

1

u/Chemistry-27 3d ago

As if it's really putting the cake server out to cut a smaller piece. Hey Virgie some people are concerned about the amount of fat and sugar they're putting into their body. Just because you can't stop doesn't make that normal Behavior. Every single party I've ever attended the cake cutter has always said how big of a piece do you want. So we're supposed to cut extremely large pieces of cake in equal portions and hand them out to everyone so that she doesn't feel bad for eating twice as much as everybody else.

1

u/Tadansugs 3d ago

What on earth did I just watch. Some people really havenā€™t suffered enough in life and itā€™s really showing

1

u/Cheapassdad 1d ago

She looks worse in motion somehow. I've never seen or heard of a "fat activist", but that's probably because they'd die two blocks into their own parade.

1

u/various_convo7 3d ago

Virgie at the cake AND the baker

1

u/theknights-whosay-Ni 3d ago

Can you explain to me what a ā€œfat activistā€? And is it what I think it is?

7

u/Professional-Hat-687 3d ago

They advocate for the rights of fat people. While they sometimes have good points and are correct that fat people deserve to be treated with dignity like everyone else, FAs are often characterized by a persecution complex bordering on fetishistic and conflate being fat with actual minority statuses like blackness or gayness. Seriously, I can't count how many dumb Tumblr takes I've seen where OOP thinks existing while fat is somehow inherently tied to being black, or calling fat phobia the last acceptable form of bigotry. Extreme cases will gatekeep being fat, where smallfats and midfats need to make room in the movement for deathfats (not my term) and uplift fatter, "more marginalized" voices in the community. And nothing is ever good enough: a company offering 6XL clothes is fatphobic because they're less available, or they're more expensive, or they don't have the style I like, or they should have 7XL too, or a million other nitpicks that make baby Jesus cry.

Someone saying they'd rather eat pizza than be a size zero? Technically a fat activist but not really in the spirit of the definition. Romanticizing overeating, policing artist's fanart of their own OCs, or writing a ten thousand word essay full of pseudoscience on why weight loss is physiologically impossible? Now we're deep in fat activist country.

See are slash fatlogic for more info.

1

u/BigBootyDreams 3d ago

That honestly comes off as a parody to me. Is she just a troll maybe?

5

u/Professional-Hat-687 3d ago

Poe's Law. I promise Virgie Tovar is very serious, or an extremely dedicated troll. She's also a motivational speaker who sells classes on how to love your fat body or some shit. This article and that video are a great microcosm of her career.

25

u/vanwiekt 3d ago

She looks like a professional victim.

3

u/Jolly_Attention_1982 3d ago

Yep , excuses all the darn time !

19

u/gedubedangle 4d ago

1

0

Wow! That wasā€¦ā€¦ unexpected. I imagined she had blue hair
