Rule changes, etc.
Here's a summary of the new rules, I'd like more community involvement in what we want and don't want to see.
Just Mother Nature
Nature must be the focal point of the post.Only in South Carolina
Location must be somewhere within SC.
3.No racism
4.No politics, religion, controversial topic, that has nothing to do with nature.
No explicit content.
No nudity, gore, etc.No trophies, kills, or catches.
Animals featured in photos should be alive and not ensnared by traps or with hooks, etc.
For now I'm not allowing hunting or fishing or any "game" posts as I want to keep this sub about the unadulterated natural side of SC.
I also want a strictly politics, etc. free zone that's why the #1 rule is Just Mother Nature.
I may add a rule about putting the location in the title but it looks like this isn't an issue and people are putting the location anyways.

Montana mountain girl to Charleston, South Carolina...Here are my concerns...
The humidity. I've been trying to gauge what the most humid days might feel like compared to here. The average humidity in Montana (as found online) is between like 60-80%, but its very rare that I actually feel it's a humid day. I have an 11 year old boxer/lab, and I'm worried about us both adjusting to the heat/humidity. It gets like 90s here in August. It's a very dry heat and we stay inside or get on some water or go deep in the mountains to stay cool.
Hurricanes.... Those things seem terrifying. I don't know how worried I should be about them, realistically? And flooding, does that happen often??
Alligators. We don't really have anything in the water here that will get you... My dog loves swimming, and I'd want to make sure he stays safe. Am I going to be running into these guys on the daily? Are all fresh bodies of water off limits?
Any other information you have to give, I'd love hear. Safest/best neighborhoods to live, best dog friendly spots, tips, etc.
Thanks! 😊

Check Out SC: State Parks Pass Available at your local library
An alternative to buying the State Parks Pass that some people might not know about is the Check Out SC Program:
https://www.statelibrary.sc.gov/libraries-librarians/services-programs/check-out-sc
Which allows county residents with a valid library card to check out the State Parks Pass for up to three weeks:
More info about the State Parks Pass, which gets you into every state park as well as free admission to certain in-park attractions:
https://southcarolinaparks.com/park-passports
The SC gov website shows a backpack and a day pass, but my local library mostly only has the 3-week checkout of the pass itself. So it may vary depending on your county. We just checked one out and all you do is go up to the front desk, and then tell them you want to check out a state parks pass, and show your library card. Then you get it for 3 weeks, just like a book.

Congaree Fireflies
I have a road trip planned for end of May and plan on stopping at Congaree NP. I’d really like to attend the synchronizing Firefly event and was wondering how hard it is to get tickets to in the Ticket Lottery? Does anyone have any experience with this?

Snakes. I am planning to move to South Carolina soon and only have a few concerns. One of them is venomous snakes. How worried should I really be? Thanks.

Drive Through Nature Preserve
So I'm trying to find a spot that I have been to once before and I don't know where it is other than like an hour or 2 from the Summerville I think in Sumpter. Anyway, it is a huge nature preserve that you can drive through and then has trails that break off and there is an alligator warning on some of them. It's a huge place that you can drive through. I know that is not a lot to go on but does it sound familiar to anyone?
