Nah Rex's death is more of a story point than Raes death. My boy will die to complete his redemption arc.

Yeah, and I’m sure Rae will die for real later on at some Point.

rex and his funeral and the way he died is actually important to the story and to his character growth, if they change that they would need to change his character growth, and robot a bit. Rae is a side character who dying or not dying doesn’t affect much in the comics

Instead of trying to free the sequids and taking the Astronaut’s place out of desperation he just flat out attacks and replaces them for his curiosity

Hey it all worked out in the end didn't it? The astronaut survived and Shapesmith got to go on an adventure! Sounds like a win win to me.
