Given they made Shapesmith much less sympathetic I think she may take his fate

Instead of trying to free the sequids and taking the Astronaut’s place out of desperation he just flat out attacks and replaces them for his curiosity

Hey it all worked out in the end didn't it? The astronaut survived and Shapesmith got to go on an adventure! Sounds like a win win to me.
