Yeah, I think this series is a great reminder of why we should appreciate being at the top of our food chain. A lot of the treatment we do to animals and animals do to each other is really terrifying.

This brings up a very real question I just thought of, could a vitrumite have sex with an earth animal and impregnate?

37

u/Mottledsquare Nov 22 '23

This man fucks

u/Brawlerz16 Nov 22 '23

Well I don’t rape them or have sex with them thank goodness.

But I do buy and consume them knowing the various amounts of ways they’re made. I mean, yeah I know they’re bred, branded, cooped up to be slaughtered and butchered. Some to be consumed some to be made into other products. A select few lucky enough to be my pets in which some people still mutila—, uh… “trim” their tails and ears and sometimes genitals. But that’s besides the point.

I only eat animals and don’t care where or how it’s made. I guess my hands are clean since I’m not the one killing them? Idk.

Well I don’t rape them

Boy I have bad news about milk

10

u/Bbgirl4lato Nov 22 '23

It's awful yeah

4

u/Brawlerz16 Nov 22 '23

Okay I’m actually ignorant about this. Can you fill me in? (Poor choice of words, but I’m actually in the dark about this)

14

u/DM-ME-THICC-FEMBOYS Nov 22 '23

Well, cows (mostly) make milk while and recently after being pregnant.

Could just let bulls loose on them but bulls aren't very gentle.

Easier just to artificially inseminate them, remove their calves at birth (don't want them drinking the milk), repeat.

9

u/Brawlerz16 Nov 22 '23

That’s actually horrifying. It’s crazy how desensitized we are to some things. Because I don’t want this conversation to seem disingenuous. I’m trying to draw a parallel:

Nolan might not rape but him and the empire certainly benefit and don’t care about the act. Us as humans don’t rape cows but we certainly benefit greatly from allowing bulls to do what they “naturally” must. But damn, that’s actually wild about milk… I legit didn’t know and never thought about it

6

u/Satanz-Daughter Nov 22 '23

Actually they don’t use bulls because they impregnate the cows several times more than what is natural for the time they are alive in, using a bull each time would damage the cows hips and that’s too much of a risk for an animal that costs a lot to upkeep. They artificially inseminate the cows with an insemination gun, where a farmer will actually stick their hand and forearm up the cows vulva

4

u/MisterViperfish Nov 22 '23

Tasty stuff tho, Homogenized milk is damn near as good as a milkshake. I wonder if it’d be even better if we shook the cows? 🤔

Dairy is Scary is a decent video on YouTube. I’d recommend Dominion (2018) if you’re interested in a high quality documentary about the animal agriculture industry

3

u/LedZeppelinRising Nov 22 '23

You’re not the one killing, but you’re financially incentivizing such each time you consume animal products

2

u/Brawlerz16 Nov 22 '23

Youre 100% right, my comment wasn’t just some sarcastic retort. It’s just me straight up admitting I can consume these things because I’m ignorant and turn a blind eye to it. Similar to how I’m sure Nolan and the other male viltrumites feels.

Because in the end, it’s not really a difference is it? We need to eat and that’s out justification for what we do to animals. They need to breed so that’s their justification for what they do to humans.

2

u/LedZeppelinRising Nov 22 '23

Yeah no of course, don’t worry I didn’t interpret your comment as such. I see your point about how we justify such atrocities, but I did want to state that such isn’t necessary. I really recommend checking out Dominion (2018) on YouTube for a documentary about the animal agriculture industry :)

u/LimeSenior Nov 22 '23

Seals will literally r@pe penguins and the penguins can't do shit about it

2

u/Bbgirl4lato Nov 22 '23

Don't get me started on otters they literally rape younger ones

2

u/Am_i_banned_yet__ Nov 22 '23

Well farmers forcibly breed tons of different animals all the time. There’s even exceptions written into bestiality laws for when they have to stick their arm up into the cows and stuff…. Pretty weird if you think about it

2

u/Background_Grab7852 Nov 22 '23

That's illegal in my country

1

u/Separate_Emotion_463 The Mauler Twins Nov 22 '23

I be eating those things

30

u/lord_assius Nov 22 '23

I mean humans rape other humans like all the time too lol. Not some thing we don’t do. And even worse is that we do it completely armed with the knowledge that it’s a horrible thing that we shouldn’t do.

23

u/Brawlerz16 Nov 22 '23

Yeah, I think this scene in particular is a great talking point about ethics and morality. I’m not interested in a brain dead safe take like “rape is bad.”

For me it calls into question the nature of “consumption”. She needs to reproduce, so she went and did it. And she isn’t human so why should she care about how? Kirkman answers this later saying viltrumites can be taught human concepts like empathy. I personally love that which is why I hate the discussions are about consequences. That’s lame because they aren’t human and they don’t/weren’t taught human values. It’s not even an instinct for them

12

u/TanjiroManjiro Omni-Drip Nov 22 '23

It also squarely puts a man in a powerless position, sadly how it often goes for women.

1

u/there_is_always_more Nov 22 '23

Or you know, we could also stop doing all that to animals lol. Just a thought.

9

u/Brawlerz16 Nov 22 '23

We could. I think that’s why it’s an interesting talking point.

Of course people are gonna say there’s such a drastic difference between rape and the treatment of animals. And they are correct in my eyes. But the main point I’m arguing is that the viltrumites see rape the same way we see animal consumption. We need to eat, they need to reproduce: so we hunt.

Never considering there’s alternatives to satisfy those needs. But idk, I just thought it was a cool topic to explore. How complex morality is

7

u/EnricoPucciC-Moon Nov 22 '23

Imma be honest with you I'm not going to stop eating meat,

3

u/Bbgirl4lato Nov 22 '23

Yeah but if we can let them live on this earth with dignity before killing them, that would actually be nice. Instead of... what we do to them while alive.

4

u/EnricoPucciC-Moon Nov 22 '23

Yeah factory farming is fucked up, but youll never stop humans from eating meat, we're animals

3

u/Bbgirl4lato Nov 22 '23

Like I said, the problem isn't eating the meat. It's the commodification of live animals. I could really get into it because I'm passionate about it but that's for another day lol

u/-S-P-Q-R- Nov 22 '23

Yep, just a thought.
