Question:

Nuelzot claims that the journey to Earth took “most of his life”. Most meaning over 50%. Yet he was able to make the trip back without (visibly) aging at all. So was that just another one of his lies?

Haha yeah, definitely a lie. I was also thinking it was strange Mark just gladly got onboard, knowing it took the alien half it’s life. That could still be fucking ages for Mark lol

I’d imagine that similar to most bugs, this species has a short lifespan.

Mark is definitely not the smartest vilturmite out there

I think that this is going to be an alien species that ages really quickly. What I think happened is that Omniman conquered the bug planet immediately and then turned it into a utopia after several generations of bug people, who now view Omniman as a god. Nolan wants to show Mark that Earth could be a utopia too if Mark just agrees to it.

most of his life could also just be a plurality of his time alive. He could have been in his equivalent late teens (18 or 19) Then shown up in his late 20s/early 30s without changing too too much

My theory is that he's a bug, with a bug lifespan.

12 day round trip isn't much, but if you only live 270~ days, and you've been alive for 12 already (presuming a very quick development) that's a significant time period.

Most could mean anywhere from 1/8th to 2/3rds to me, but yeah my money is on short lifespan

Very different lifespans. Their entire society can change multiple times in just a couple of years.

This basically is a spoiler.

Not really if he’s asking a question.

1

u/nezacoy Nov 18 '23

It still is even if he's asking a question, otherwise why did you not answer fully?

People can converse about the show and ask questions without asking for information from beyond the show.

Lmao my bad dude. I don’t know what you want from me. He didn’t complain

How can you tell if a grasshopper ages? (Once it’s an adult, anyway)

Most of his life to that point assumably.

He started developing dementia by the time they got back, or at least, he claimed to.

If they had a lifespan of 15 days, and he set off when he’s 2 days old, by the time he got to Earth he’d be 8 days old, and spent 75% of his life (not lifespan, life) on the trip. Then by the time they got back, he’d be 14 days old, he’d be well past retirement age and developing dementia, and can expect to live about another day.

this was a big plot hole for me, if it took him sooo long to get there, how was it only 6 days back

Insects have short lifespans. Secondarily - he was consistently deceptive through all his screentime.

Either lying or he was just a couple of days old when he was sent on the mission. They might only live for like a month.
