American having lived in Europe and the UK.

No it’s more like having to wait several weeks to be seen by a GP to be told to go home and take Tylenol while resting. I had my foot run over by a car and was told the same thing.

That’s only if you’re a selective little bitch that wants to see only a particular doctor and one that can speak your language.

If you lived in a country and made an effort to learn the local language, you could see a doctor within an hour.

Sadly, Americans are too proud generally to learn another culture and then bitch and moan when the world doesn’t cater to them.

I’m not sure why you’re so angry. Everyone in the Netherlands speaks moderate to good English. I wasn’t selective as the man who ran over my foot brought me to the local ER where everyone would go.

Most internationals in The NL don’t learn Dutch. It’s not an American issue. Actually I didn’t meet many Americans while there. There’s only about 10,000 in a country of 17 million.

Loads of rabble justifying the usual American elitism.

Don’t expect a normal experience when you treat your stay like a holiday.

PS: Europe isn’t a country, and the standards vary vastly across the tens of countries within it.

What American elitism? You’re projecting. The Netherlands has a tiny American population and mostly I hear people complain about British tourists. The Americans I meet in the NL are the ones, including myself, who actually attempt to learn Dutch. 99% of the internationals in meet especially from EU countries laugh at the idea.

You are right I shouldn’t have broadly spoken about single payer systems or European health care systems as they’re all different. I was making a broad counterpoint to a broadly asserted statement when quality of care, patient outcomes, and out of pocket expanses can vary widely in the US.
