How can you tell op is a bot?

Repost with an identical caption is usually the first red flag, but if you don't recognize the repost it gets tricky.

Once you start to look though, bots tend to all check the same boxes.

  1. Years between account creation and first post.

  2. Multiple posts at basically the same time.

  3. Wide spread of one off posts/comments on subreddits. Real humans, even if active on a lot of subs, cluster their interaction. If you see that the last ten posts are in ten different subs, it's probably a bot.

  4. Only top level comments, if any comments at all. Bots don't respond to other people's comments.

4.5: They respond to each other. This last bit is way less common in my experience, but sometimes a group of bots will work together, commenting on another bots top level comment. These are, invariably, the top comment and top response from a different thread with the same post.
