Is Big Red soda sold in South Carolina? discussion

Most states do not sell Big Red. I'll be traveling to South Carolina soon. Curious if it can be purchased there or do I need to smuggle my own? šŸ˜…

I think you can buy it at specialty shops and Cracker Barrel, but itā€™s not readily available in convenience stores or gas stations.

This has to be where I've seen it, Cracker Barrel or possibly Big Lots at some point.

Yeah, Cracker Barrel has glass four pack most of the time.

It's definitely sold in a few gas stations around Myrtle Beach, because I've had it recently. But it's not common.

Grab a Blenheims ginger ale as well. It's fantastic.

Itā€™s not even close to Big Red OP. Bucceā€™s in Florence has it on their fountain since they are based out of TX.

I think it is supposed to be cherry, but I definitely get bubblegum from it too.

Isnā€™t it just red cream soda?

It's not the same, but definitely check it out- Fountian and glass bottle.

Hummingbird feed is closer to big red. Cheerwine doesnā€™t have that intense chemical sweetness , itā€™s more of a soda than a syrup.

From up north. Cheerwine tastes very similar to big red.

Bucees has either real Big Red or their version of it on their fountains, i can't remember. If you can find a Five Guys that hasn't switched to the coke freestyle machines yet they'll have Barq's Red Cream soda on their fountain.

No Big Red, no Nehi either.

Thereā€™s definitely Nehi! Iā€™ve gotten it in the upstate and in the lowcountry

I have found Nehi randomly at small convenience stores out in the country.

u/DiveTender ????? 2d ago

My mistake then. I've just been in the wrong place.

u/shrivel ????? 2d ago

I mean, any place that sells Nehi is more likely the "wrong place."

2

u/DiveTender ????? 2d ago

That all depends on what you are looking for in a convenience store.

Clearly looking for Nehi šŸ¤£

They have it at Buceeā€™s in the fountain, maybe they have it bottles too but Iā€™ve never looked. They actually tried to introduce it here sometime in the 2000s and I guess it didnā€™t sell well because you can no longer get it.

I see Big Red a lot in the little gas stations. I've never tried it though

Alas, no Big Red. Kroger makes a passable substitute called Big K Red Cream Soda. It's decent, but it's not the real McCoy.

Nope, for that reason you should stay up north

Pretty sure Big Red is a Texas thing

It is.

Big Red is a soft drink. It was created in 1937 by Grover C Thomsen and R.H. Roark in Waco, Texas[1] and originally known as Sun Tang Red Cream Soda. It is an American variety of cream soda and a special off-brand "blue cream soda". Gary Smith was the chief executive officer of Big Red Group (ā€œBRGā€) directly responsible for all functional areas. He successfully acquired and integrated numerous businesses to build BRG into a national company, eventually selling the entire business to Keurig Dr Pepper.[2]
