Maybe he is retiring after all.

definitely a major bummer
Thanks for everything Nico, wish you had been a sixer for longer

I think this means he wants more than a minimum and we’re using the room exception on Oubre

There’s more guys in the league that can throw embiid an entry pass

Batum was beyond useless in the Knicks series. Great regular season bench player, has a great skillset for this team, but just too damn old to scrap the way we need our wings to scrap in this conference.

u/Routine_Size69 2d ago
He was 16 and 7 on 5-7 shooting with 3 threes in his last game? Lmao. Useless?

Now do the other 5 games. And he was getting completely abused on the boards.

Absolutely not, we desperately will need Oubre off the bench as 6th man and to replace PG every time he goes down

u/tugginmypeen 2d ago
Replacing PG is actually a fair point. Otherwise Batum is clearly the better player.

u/Myrese_Taxey 2d ago
You’d rather we let Oubre go?

u/tomdooleyphl 2d ago
Honestly, kind of. Oubre had a great attitude and he’s very handsome, but he doesn’t really provide anything that the team desperately needs (shooting, playmaking). He’s an okay rebounder and he can be a good defender, but he’s kind of useless offensively.

u/-Captain--Hindsight 2d ago
He was the third leading scorer on this team last year. He would make a great 6th man if we get PG

u/Myrese_Taxey 2d ago
I wouldn’t say he’s useless. His shooting is alright and he’s a pretty good finisher. I also like how he defended in the Knicks series. Batum was great but who knows how he’d be next season with his age. Oubre is younger and athletic which is something we need.

He’s a great finisher and I agree that he can be a good defender. He’s far from an “alright” shooter and he’s a particularly low IQ player. I liked him on the minimum but I really don’t see how he fits in this team better than a guy like Thybulle did.

u/Myrese_Taxey 2d ago
Thybulle couldn’t score at all, Oubre can at least score at the rim. I think he fit perfectly fine on the team this year.

He did more for us in one season than Tobi did in five years. Single-handedly was the difference maker against Miami in the play-in, while Tobi has folded like a lawn chair time and time again. Thank you Nico!!

Guy made winning plays and got Jo the ball in the right spots. Going to be hard to replace him.

The fact that this report doesn't have info about what teams he's meeting with, I wonder if he's just retiring.

Is this just them renouncing his rights? If so that was to be expected…

Kelly Iko, who spent 6 months going on podcasts "confirming" Harden back to Houston.

u/Appropriate-Hippo758 2d ago
I wonder if he’s just mistakenly saying this because we renounced his rights?
Cause that was to be expected. We have to renounce Batum, Melton, Buddy anyway.

I liked his fit on the team but I Hess he’s retiring. I will forever respect him as a sixers legend for that Heat game.

Losing The Minivan and Boom Boom Nico Batum.....
Kate Scott in shambles right now

God damn can we have him coach guys on throwing entry passes to Embiid? Him actually being able to get passes deep in the paint instead of having to post up 20 feet out was huge for us this season

feel like he might just be seeing if a team will overpay for him, and if not he’ll just retire or sign during the season.

I wonder (and hope) it’s because we’re getting KCP, which would require sacrificing Batum’s salary.

u/percy2376 2d ago
Is it because he is retiring following the Olympics or is planning on signing elsewhere?

Most players care about money only. He can get a bigger contract elsewhere!

Why the fuck would we tell him we're not resigning if he's not retiring
