He’s supposedly albino, which might have something to do with it

Also from what I’ve read legally blind

I have seen zero news articles that mention this, only Reddit comments. The article linked by OP makes no mention of this.

Probably illegally blind then.

If you can't do the time, then don't do the looking at of the crime

"Do you have a permit for that cane and canine, sir? What's your name?"

"Dusty"

Believe it or not, straight to jail - but he got lost on the way.

Build the glasses then?

Albinism generally causes severe eyesight issues.

Correct. But where is the source for everyone claiming he has albinism?

u/missvh 5d ago

People that know him in his community.

Correct. One of my childhood best friends is albino and is legally blind. He also has a twin brother whose albino and blind, which is apparently a 25% chance as they're not identical. They can read, write, and work certain jobs, but only one of them can drive. They tilt their heads in photos and to read. Very cool dudes.

Makes sense. So white you blind yourself.

It’s not uncommon for people with albinism to be legally blind or have pretty bad vision problems. Plus general light sensitivity because there’s not enough melanin in the eye.

This happened in my area it's all over my feed.

He got lost in the burn zone from the 2020 cuz fire, and I can confirm the landscape is very different from pre fire. https://www.newsnationnow.com/missing/missing-california-hiker-lukas-mcclish-photos/

It's on Reddit so therefore it is true and will soon be codified into history with AI.

It’s likely he asked the reporters to leave that part out. He is definitely vision impaired, I work with someone who is close with him and we heard the local fire station up here start cheering loudly the moment he was found

Your right, I can’t find anything to suggest he any sorta blind in any article.

2

u/polytique 5d ago

I don’t think they can disclose his medical conditions.

2

u/So_Motarded 5d ago

If he does have albinism, it's very likely that he's blind.

3

u/OccasionallyLazy 5d ago

Nah, he just has his eyes closed in that pic

so you are telling me, a legally blind man, thought it was a good idea to go hiking in the wilderness?

I do believe we have a strong Darwin candidate this year

I do believe we have a strong Darwin candidate this year

He is still alive so I'd say he is the opposite.

u/imanAholebutimfunny 5d ago

No, you are just making the mistake thinking that death is pre requisite to qualify. Or maybe you won the award in the past and have inside knowledge. I do not know.

12

u/codespace 5d ago

He neither died nor was sterilized by his time spent lost in the woods, so he doesn't qualify for a Darwin Award.

5

u/robsterfish 5d ago

Nah, he’s getting laid from the publicity, so it’s the anti-Darwin award.

Contacts dried out, glasses broke maybe? Legally blind doesnt mean incapanle of sight with correction (as I am)

3

u/CouchHam 5d ago edited 5d ago

That’s exactly what it means. It means even with correction you can’t get to better than 20/200. At 20/200 your sight isn’t giving you meaningful input from afar. You have to be ten times closer to see something someone with normal vision would from the actual distance.

2

u/moving_finger_writes 5d ago

I stand corrected

u/NiceStress 5d ago

As most people with albinism are

1

u/dubov 5d ago

As opposed to illegally?

1

u/RebeccaHowe 5d ago

That’s very common with albinism.
