My inner cynic agrees. No albino does anything outdoors without a shirt.

Yeah, this is no joke. An albino going for a hike without a shirt is only one level down from an astronaut without a spacesuit.

Depends on the hike? Maybe? Every hike near me is in the woods, the sun doesn't touch the ground due to the canopy.

Is there something other than sun they area afraid of? I don't really know much about albinos, and don't understand why a completely shaded hike would be bad for them.

Just the sun.

A completely shaded hike wouldn't be bad for them, but albinos tend to have been burned enough that they don't take this unnecessary chances.
