There are two types of people that live in the southwest; those that shake out their shoes, and those that will learn to.

If my work gloves have been sitting for a while I give them a nice shake and then smash them with a hammer...just in case haha!!!

I keep my gardening gloves in the bookshelf next to the back door, your way sounds more fun.

If you just feel left out re: smashing things, grab a dictionary or Harry Potter and let your gloves have it anyway on your way out.

If you use a copy of Harry Potter to smash a bunch of territorial arachnids would that be considered a T.E.R.F. War?

I do that and I live in Saskatchewan where we have no venomous things to worry about! (If I am wrong about that please do not correct me I prefer ignorant bliss)

To this day I still shake my towel every time I get out of the shower. Not risking another camel spider crawling on me.

My wife just moved from column A to column B a week ago! I caught slight, confused head shakes from my wife out of my periphery for years when I tapped out my shoes. An unusually large wolf spider in her shoe one morning made her a believer!

I work for an ISP in the southwest. I can't tell you how many transplants I've heard tell me they put their foot in a shoe, that was left on the tile or outside. Who have now learned an insanely valuable lesson.

Lived there for a decade and only saw one once. Granted I was in the cities for most of it. Found the cat slapping it around the living room 🤦🏻‍♂️

Somehow cat was fine and didn’t get stung.

Fucking rule #1: put your shoes up on a rack at night. Everybody knows this.

And from what I’ve heard about Hawaii, they have people who either shake their bedsheets out before they get into them, or they just scream and scream and scream.

Btw, I was just reading up on them now. Apparently they’re built like tanks and you can’t just stomp on them to kill them. One person’s daughter had luck killing them with a butcher knife.

I've lived in Vegas most of my life and I've seen one scorpion ever. Roll of the dice, I guess.

sigh this thread has somewhat made me wary of my dream to live there one day. Although they’re only slightly worse than centipedes which I’m used to.
