Please tell me the gym has a no climbing shoes in the bathroom rule

u/Medaviation May 05 '24

Came here to make sure someone had said this because if I went to the bathroom at the end of a session and saw someone taking a leak in their TC pros I think I’d have to go home and boil my hands. And you know someone is doing that…

u/CrimsonMutt May 05 '24

my gym has a sign in the bathroom saying "no washing of shoes or feet in the sinks"

someone must have tried it for them to explicitly ban it

u/remarkable_sct May 05 '24

Yes, have you met climbers?

208

u/ChefInsano May 05 '24

I just know that the best of them lives in a van and pisses in bottles. I think climbers are like bassists, if they’re not living with a girlfriend they’re essentially homeless.

64

u/mschr493 May 05 '24

So you're saying that the best way to get a climber off your front porch is to pay him for the pizza?

3

u/Weird-Library-3747 May 06 '24

Bahhh this guy thinks climbers work

2

u/sobrique May 06 '24

Harsh but I cannot dispute

67

u/Carlesque91 May 05 '24

Ex of a climber here. Can confirm this 1000%

15

u/Goodgoditsgrowing May 05 '24

God this statement is so fucking true. Even the exceptions I know are living with their parents and spending 60% of the week at their girlfriend’s place….

As someone who has dated a bassist and a climber while owning my own house this made me laugh aloud

11

u/msbehaviour May 06 '24

Fark. I just pointed out to my husband that he was a bassist, climber and DJ when we married and he moved into my house. It's only taken me 25 years to realise his game plan. He even got Kiwi residency out of me. Still climbing. 😈

u/laughingashley May 06 '24

If he's also a magician, he should be the poster boy for this archetype

7

u/msbehaviour May 06 '24

How did you guess? He's not only a magician he's also a gamer. Thankfully, the animation has built us a business so can't complain.

1

u/LessInThought May 06 '24

What makes a woman date men like these? Aside from them being hot.

2

u/LETTERKENNYvsSPENNY May 06 '24

If they can pull their own weight up the way they do, imagine the possibilities in the bedroom with a typically smaller partner.

1

u/Exciting-Mulberry-30 May 06 '24

Personally, I like people who are passionate and eclectic and as someone who has the left brain part down pat (I’m in school for mechanical engineering bought a house at 23 etc) finding people with different brains is fun and also sex. I’ve also dated a glass artist and a semi pro football player which I feel like are in the same vein lol. That being said I’m single now so maybe reevaluation should happen

4

u/boojieboy666 May 05 '24

I work as a stage hand and there’s an overlap of us in that demographic

1

u/Gamma_The_Guardian May 06 '24

I think if it's by choice, that makes you a nomad.

0

u/Capable-Mail-7464 May 05 '24

There's a term specifically for it in the climbing community: dirtbag.

There's showers. I saw a lady holding her feet up to the hand dryer to blow dry her feet after she had washed them in the sink. And then complained that they don't stay on long enough to fully dry a foot.

There's. Showers. And towels.

1

u/Immersi0nn May 05 '24

....those dryers generally just blow the water off you, vs drying it. It'll dry the leftover stuff it didn't blow off but how tf did she think she was gonna walk out of there with dry feet even if the dryer fully dried them???

2

u/Random-Rambling May 05 '24

The college I went to had one foot-level sink installed in every bathroom on campus presumably to accommodate the large number of Muslim students who went there. I thought that was pretty cool.

4

u/Positively_manifest May 05 '24

Muslims have to wash their feet sometimes

5

u/-1Ghostrider May 05 '24

I sure hope so

1

u/Starchildofthefae May 05 '24

I work at a truck stop, and people ABSOLUTELY wash their feet in our bathroom sinks. Frequently. 😭

1

u/McWeaksauce91 May 06 '24

A lot of climbers are also nomads. Rules of the road

1

u/Previous_Warthog_905 May 05 '24

Every sign has a story behind it.

0

u/b-rar May 05 '24

Steve Jobs used to routinely wash his feet in toilets

1

u/CrimsonMutt May 05 '24

he was just washing his TC pros while he was wearing them

-14

u/Iwasborninafactory_ May 05 '24

That's usually an anti-Muslim thing.

6

u/-1Ghostrider May 05 '24

Jesus. I Couldn’t imagine living life and seeing a sign that says no washing feet or shoes in the sink at gym and instead of thinking, ya there’s showers and it’s nasty to wash your nasty feet after working out in a place where people put their hands and face, you think ya they hate Muslims. Lol. The amount of alleys and backyards and rivers you had to cross to come to that conclusion is astonishing.

2

u/bengm225 May 05 '24

It's a pro-hygiene thing.

1

u/Positively_manifest May 05 '24

Wouldn’t that be a pro Muslim thing to have the lower sink?

29

u/TimmyFaya May 05 '24

The porous material from the holds probably sucks the pee in, you can retrace the club history by analysing them.

1

u/_Cum_and_get_it_ May 20 '24

They’re not porous

50

u/frogwizord May 05 '24

At my local gym it’s very strict on no climbing shoes in the restrooms…. for obvious reasons

5

u/Goodgoditsgrowing May 05 '24

Ok as someone who does not climb I need to know why this is so obvious!

22

u/[deleted] May 05 '24

[deleted]

-4

u/Muffled_Voice May 05 '24

But what if you step in pee with your barefoot? I’m seriously asking

6

u/SketchySeaBeast May 05 '24

Then you learned an important lesson with a happy little accident.

4

u/[deleted] May 06 '24

[deleted]

-1

u/Muffled_Voice May 06 '24

But I thought you were supposed to climb it barefoot?

1

u/[deleted] May 06 '24

3

u/Muffled_Voice May 06 '24

Because of the no climbing shoes in bathroom rule and the climbing thing is in the bathroom .. idk man

u/frogwizord May 05 '24

Well when climbing the holds get touched by both hands and feet so you would be tracking anything from the bathroom floor to the climbing holds

1

u/Teh_Original May 05 '24

Enforcement of the rule is a bit less prominent though =(

4

u/BubblesDahmer May 05 '24

Why is that bad? What are TC pros? /genuine question

23

u/[deleted] May 05 '24

TC Pros are a model of climbing shoe.

Climbing gyms pretty much universally have a rule against wearing your climbing shoes in the bathrooms (gotta change into your trainers or sandals) because then they’ll get dirty from the bathroom floor and you’ll go back to climbing, transferring that to the climbing holds that people also grab with their hands.

Similarly you’re generally not allowed to climb in regular athletic shoes, since you’re presumably also wearing those to walk/run in other dirty places like out on the sidewalk.

1

u/maveric101 May 06 '24 edited May 06 '24

Similarly you’re generally not allowed to climb in regular athletic shoes

In my experience, gyms generally do allow for that.  Anyway, yeah, don't wear climbing shoes in the bathroom, but not because it'll keep the holds clean... just less filthy.  IMO it's not worth worrying about; just don't put your fingers in your mouth anti you're done and wash your hands.

-8

u/TheNorthRemembers_s8 May 05 '24

I got news for your bud. Your hands are gonna get dirty sometimes.

17

u/nviledn5 May 05 '24

I think there’s a solid case to be made for preventing unnecessary dirtiness when we can, just IMO. Especially when it comes to urine and fecal matter.

14

u/[deleted] May 05 '24

Look dude if you can’t see the difference between pizza grease and animal shit then I don’t know what to tell you

4

u/Mrbutter1822 May 05 '24

He doesn’t climb as you can see by his comment

7

u/RetPala May 05 '24

Every shoe you own has fucking dogshit on it, that's not even in the same universe as just "dirty"

1

u/maveric101 May 06 '24 edited May 06 '24

Traces. And people walk all around the gym with those shoes, on the same floors where people are walking with climbing shoes, so traces of dog shit are getting on the holds no matter what.

https://www.climbing.com/news/study-finds-fecal-veneer-on-gym-holds/

3

u/EntrepreneurOk6166 May 05 '24

It's like the rule for wearing special bowling shoes.

Those handholds on climbing walls is the entire sport. You cannot have dogshit, grease, tile cleaners etc all over them. You put on your clean climbing shows to climb, and put them (still clean) in a bag the moment you stop climbing.

1

u/maveric101 May 06 '24 edited May 06 '24

Newsflash, those climbing shoes aren't clean. People walk all around the gym with those shoes, on the same floors where people are walking with climbing shoes, so traces of dog shit are getting on the holds no matter what.

1

u/JMoon33 May 06 '24

Some people climb with the same shoes they wear outside, so this can't be worse lol

1

u/swedishpiehole May 06 '24

Thanks for this comment. I literally laughed my ass off.

0

u/BlakesonHouser May 05 '24

Beyond ick factor, does urine necessarily have more bacteria than sweat?

3

u/ToastedCrumpet May 05 '24

Urine can be a breeding ground for bacteria potentially plus faecal matter, vomit, blood and who knows what else could be on the bathroom floor

2

u/sour_cereal May 05 '24

sperms

2

u/SketchySeaBeast May 05 '24

And then you have witches chasing you around the gym, trying to get the semens. It's hard to climb like that.

1

u/maveric101 May 06 '24

Urine can be a breeding ground

In the sense that it contains water which helps bacteria grow, sure. But it's sterile.

1

u/ToastedCrumpet May 06 '24

It can contain sugars, protein, even bacteria or blood (think UTI, kidney infection, bladder infection, kidney stones etc).

If you’ve ever had urinalysis done you’ll know there’s sometimes a lot more than “sterile water” in urine

-2

u/llDurbinll May 05 '24

What am I missing with someone wearing a specific type of shoe to hypothetically climb up to go pee?
