But death isn't evil, so he'd be fine

This has been in my head for years. So in Hercules, Hades is evil right? But he's the God of the dead, not the God of death, Thanatos is. I like to imagine Thanatos is the terrifying reaper of souls and Hades is just kinda their keeper. The Fates and Thanatos decide who dies, Hades does not.

My favorite portrayals of Death with a capital D is in American Horror Story Asylum and Neil Gaimans' Sandman. In Sandman Death says "When the first living thing existed, I was there waiting. When the last living thing dies, my job will be finished. I'll put the chairs on the tables, turn out the lights and lock the universe behind me when I leave."
