Am I missing something? 18M/year is pretty on par for a player of Isaac’s caliber

You're missing nothing. OP doesn't understand the current value of role player contracts in the NBA, that's all.

Yup. He'll almost certainly be cheaper to extend than to wait for FA. Hopefully a lot waiting for the first big domino to fall with the Mitchell extension.
