I don’t understand this thought process. Okoro will probably get at the most 17.5 apy which is well worth what he brings to the team. For comparison, that is what Tristan Thompson got a decade ago. I would value a high effort wing that can defend any player on the court more than a high effort rebounding center. And also the dude is 23 and still developing. Match anything even around 20 apy and it’s worth it, especially when you consider the contract just given to OG

A 6ft5inch wing who gets injured every season and can’t hit corner 3s is NOT worth 17.5 a year what the fuck

Who gets injured every season…most players get injured every season. And he’s played 88% of possible regular season games since getting drafted by us, so I wouldn’t consider that often injured. Also he shot 39% percent from 3 last season which was the 3rd season in a row he showed improvement in his 3 pt percentage. Lastly 6’5” with a 6’8” wingspan and can still guard the 1-5. So yes, he IS worth 17.5 a year what the fuck

Not to mention we need trade assets/filler in case we want to make a move later. Not saying I want to get rid of Okoro, but if a big time wing becomes available at the deadline, having $17.5M or whatever in Okoro to help make the trade work could be very beneficial.

And I kind of hope we front load Okoro’s deal so we can get a bigger chunk out of the way before Mobley’s extension kicks in, and we’d also have a big contract to move in a potential trade for a star.

Absolutely, two very good points. I think people forget or don’t realize that when you’re already over the tax, the best course of action/asset is to have larger contracts
