Super hot take to some, but I think Xbox swung the pendulum way too much the other way in their course correction with the kinect.

I get why they did it, because the kinect left a huge stink on Xbox from the late 360 era and Xbox one reveal, but canning it entirely I feel was too much. They really should have made it a niche optional accessory for those who wanted it, because it was decent for what it did. They should have done what Playstation does with the ps4 and ps5 camera or vr just make it a optional accessory for enthusiasts to use, without shoving it down everyone's throats who didn't want it.

I remember when they launched the Xbox one s, you had to order this adapter for the kinect but going about that was so cumbersome and clunky for those who had a kinect so they didn't do it at all.

Microsoft makes a lot of decisions that seem like they come emotionally stable overreactions. It's somewhat surprising that Xbox has survived the past 10+ years of nonsensical mismanagement of many fronts. They tried forcing the Kinect down people's throats, then wholly abandoned it.

They signed a bunch of second-party game deals, then let almost all of those walk while firing a bunch of in-house talent. After that came the 5+ years of buying studios and delays releases like crazy. They made a big deal about their entertainment division, but shut it down before it even got a project together.

We were given a multitasking-focused XB1, only to have all of that stuff stripped to the bone. MS kept rebranding their music service, while wondering how a platform no one could identify with (since the name kept changing) didn't have a lasting place in that industry.

Miceosoft is loaded with consumer-focuaed projects that didn't get enough time to find their footing. They frequently show up late to a fad and forget to buy in themselves, leaving consumers with half-finished devices and products that rarely get the polish or support they need/deserve.

Yep, I have a drawer of such things; Zune, Windows Phone, Windows 8 tablet, Band 2, Kinects.
