It's crazy that Mark doesn't get a salary though.

Cecil would absolutely give him one if he asked - he was more than happy to throw money at Debbie.

u/nerdguy1138 Mar 28 '24

Considering his budget is "yes"

409

u/Structor125 Mar 28 '24

Just imagine if the US taxpayer knew that their money was funding Sinclair’s reanimen

337

u/TheManWithNothing Mar 28 '24

Or the portal that Cecil abuses

256

u/nerdguy1138 Mar 28 '24

With the level of BS Cecil deals with on a daily basis, he gets unlimited teleports forever.

58

u/2ndaccountbecausobvs Mar 28 '24

Tbf his time is probably the most valuable of anyone's on the globe, but even still it's a bit ridiculous lol. You think they'd give some of the top fighters like Mark the tech too in case they ever need to escape a situation like Anissa but ig that could ruin the fun of the story a bit. I lole Cecil being able to be literally anywhere.

15

u/TurmUrk Mar 30 '24

Mark would actually probably be a bad use of it, he can get anywhere on earth in minutes/hours at most, some slower powerhouses would definitely be good, like imagine if the juggernaut had instant transmission

7

u/Trvr_MKA Apr 01 '24

Or to extract members of the team like Kate

2

u/2ndaccountbecausobvs Apr 01 '24

I was mainly thinking of extracting Mark ya

11

u/Paj132 Mar 28 '24

He's got the Abyssal Link perk.

16

u/wakeupwill Mar 28 '24

A million bucks a pop.

15

u/CurtisMarauderZ Mar 28 '24

The teleporter probably cost several orders of magnitude more to build than it does to use. Cecil's just getting his money's worth.

13

u/Relevant_Impact_6349 Mar 28 '24

I wonder if he can expense it outside of work

31

u/ThatOtherGuyTPM Invincible Mar 28 '24

What is “outside of work?”

23

u/Nobody5464 Mar 28 '24

Cecil doesn’t leave work

5

u/iNoodl3s Mar 29 '24

Cecil’s teleportation costs like $5 million a pop

4

u/NoSoyTuPotato Mar 29 '24

I don’t remember it being mentioned in the show. I honestly thought Cecil was a supe, but that it was only teleporting

11

u/TheManWithNothing Mar 29 '24

I think in the omniman fight he mentions it being like $1 million each time he uses it

13

u/Z4mb0ni Mar 28 '24

I'd rather my money go to unethical science than whatever the hell it's used for now

8

u/Structor125 Mar 28 '24

Fair enough. Just think of all the jobs Cecil created with the GDA!

10

u/nerdguy1138 Mar 28 '24

I guarantee that's not even written down anywhere.

Not even top secret classified, just, nobody wrote that.

9

u/Comfortable_Shape264 Mar 28 '24

Their money is funding drones and worse shit in real life nobody cares

6

u/Structor125 Mar 29 '24

For the record, I didn’t vote for that

5

u/Comfortable_Shape264 Mar 29 '24

Same with Invincible

3

u/Radix2309 Mar 29 '24

I feel like the patents they can leak out would pay for themselves. Not to mention the success rates in stopping incidents.

2

u/virusrt Mar 30 '24

If that technology exists, we are almost definitely funding it.

323

u/FeralTribble Séance Dog Mar 28 '24

Cecil: “it costs 6 million dollars to use this thing once”

Cecil: teleports just to leave a room

175

u/lordolxinator Rex Splode Mar 28 '24

Donald: Cecil, how often do you use this thing?

Flashbacks of Cecil playing catch with himself, Cecil teleporting two inches over on a couch to get to the remote just out of arm's reach, Cecil teleporting while dancing to create synchronised dance after images

Cecil: Only when necessary.

41

u/VerbingNoun413 Mar 28 '24

Donald... I'll never walk again. Because I learned how to apperate.

5

u/GoldenStateWizards Atom Eve Mar 29 '24

Holy shit, I was just thinking about that before scrolling down literally one comment and seeing this lol.

(Briefly flashes in place)

"Did you just apperate to the same spot?

16

u/idkpotatoiguess Mar 28 '24

Mfer could just uber once and mark's salary issue is sorted

5

u/karateema Abraham Lincoln Mar 28 '24

Makes sense, the dude manages the whole planet's safety, like that bossy woman in Project Hail Mary

1

u/gavinator0612 Abraham Lincoln Mar 31 '24

Yeah how much did that not-Jewish space laser cost?

/j

34

u/nerdguy1138 Mar 28 '24

"Christ, kid, you just wanted money?! Literally pick a number!"

25

u/terlin Mar 28 '24

think the problem moreso is that accepting a salary would tie him even closer to Cecil, which is precisely what Mark doesn't want (and recognizes the fact)

12

u/UnloadTheBacon Mar 28 '24

Absolutely - it's about control.

3

u/AJDx14 Mar 29 '24

It only does if Mark spends enough that he needs to keep the job to maintain his standard of living. He could just take the money and save it for emergencies.

1

u/sexyloser1128 May 14 '24

which is precisely what Mark doesn't want (and recognizes the fact)

He could literally just set up a donation page. I'm sure people will appreciate all the times he saved Earth from monsters or disasters and donate some money. Or Eve could just magic up some gold bars out of thin air to give to her dear friend(s).

14

u/greatness101 Mar 28 '24

Wouldn't even need to give him one tbh. He could have everything comped that he would ever need like the hotel in Hawaii for spring break.

23

u/UnloadTheBacon Mar 28 '24

Yeah just give him a GDA credit card and tell him the limit is "high enough that he doesn't need to know, low enough that he shouldn't go looking for it"

5

u/Anjunabeast Mar 29 '24

Speaking of. I thought Cecil had the Grayson house bugged how’s brain dude there with no response from Cecil’s team

2

u/sonicmerlin Mar 30 '24

plot holes

2

u/Sudden-Spare-3787 Apr 01 '24

we don’t know that there’s no response. all we saw was like a 5 second clip of him in the house. i can guarantee cecil will be involved in whatever happens

2

u/sexyloser1128 May 14 '24

Maybe Brain dude destroyed the bugs? He did destroy the earpiece in Mark's ear with his mind.

3

u/Heyyoguy123 Mar 29 '24

He could’ve easily received a government credit card and used it for anything he wanted

3

u/ArcadianBlueRogue Mar 29 '24

Why pay the kid if the kid hasn't thought to ask yet?

3

u/Dumbusta Mar 29 '24

Yeah he could give him one teleport's worth and he's set for like a hundred years

25

u/5am281 Robot Mar 28 '24

Debbie says “we don’t want your money”

18

u/Various-Passenger398 Mar 28 '24

I'm not sure why they wouldn't essentially be government employees.  Why wouldn't you just pay them and keep them on standby?  An asset like Mark is worth millions just in liability costs.

13

u/flintlock0 Mar 28 '24

They spend like a billion dollars every time he teleports. He can throw Mark a minimum wage.

9

u/240Nordey Damien Darkblood Mar 28 '24

Then he IS in Cecil's pocket. Literally.

7

u/Anjunabeast Mar 29 '24

I mean with mark and the guardians constantly taking L’s. Might be time to starting listening to Cecil

5

u/LinuxMatthews Mar 29 '24

Reminds of that episode of Buffy that always annoyed me when she had The Watchers by the bollocks and negotiates a salary for Giles

... But not herself...

Like she's the one doing all the work while he occasionally says they all need to read some books.

She'd be a lot more effective at her job if she didn't need to work fast food.

I get being a superhero for money might kind of ruin the hero bit for some people

But it's not like that need much just about the same they'd get if they were doing a different job.

2

u/QueasyIsland Mar 28 '24

I wonder if viltrumites go hungry like humans, considering how long they life and the buffs they have, will he even need money if that’s the case

11

u/VerbingNoun413 Mar 28 '24

He needs to buy comics.

1

u/Goluxas Mar 30 '24

The Seance Dog subscription won't pay for itself!

5

u/HokageRokudaime Mar 28 '24

Mark not getting time off and not getting a salary was a double whammy I did not expect to question until now. Why tf does Mark not get time off? He's literally the #1 strongest person on earth.

10

u/Anjunabeast Mar 29 '24

Cause there’s an impending viltirumite invasion that’s he’s already procrastinating on

1

u/Ed_Durr Mar 30 '24

Up next, why did Eisenhower not get a vacation when planning D-Day?

2

u/Pacify_ Mar 29 '24

Dude is a global super power, he could have anything he wanted, no one would say no. But I guess that's not a character trait

2

u/DoNotEatMySoup Apr 04 '24

I always thought it was on the basis of "Cecil I need money" "ok Mark here ya go" *bank transfer* but yeah he should get like a steady $100/day at least for funsies

1

u/PhoenixAgent003 Apr 15 '24

I get paid $125 a day to babysit roomfuls of children.

1

u/GuybrushMarley2 Mar 30 '24

It's crazy that Mark scrounges for money, he could make millions doing product endorsements, paid appearances, sky's the limit for a superhero.

Shit he could probably make millions just blabbing on TikTok a couple of times a day.

1

u/Leafs17 Mar 31 '24

Just like the Avengers, apparently

1

u/lostinthesauceguy Apr 01 '24

It's actually kind of silly tbh. Mark at no point would ever be worrying about money. He's literally earth's only hope.

1

u/wolfhawk1999 Apr 07 '24

It blows my mind he isn't already getting paid. He literally saves the whole world on the regular

1

u/aquaflask09072022 Apr 12 '24

if i were mark i would demand salary plus instant diploma
