Yeah, I feel like the "Seth Rogen just plays himself" criticism is a rough on the bloke when that's all people cast and write him as. He makes a really spectacular Allen.

A ton of those actors that "only play themselves" is because that's what they get cast as, because that's what people go/want to see. I'm sure while some of them like it, they actually do enjoy playing something else..as they probably didn't want to become an actor to not actually act.

i mean, to be fair, Seth has publicly stated that he makes no effort in trying to make his voice acting sound different than his normal voice. Here's a video interview where he claims to have told this to the studio when getting cast as Donkey Kong.

The thing is, he lied. Because when it is a project he actually cares about, he's willing to put in the extra effort. In his TMNT movie last year, his Bebop sounded distinctly different than his regular talking voice. And now he's having that same effect on Invincible. What do these two projects have in common? He's executive producer and very obviously cares on an artistic level. So to me, when you hear his "normal voice" its something he's just doing for the paycheck, like Mario or The Lion King.
