Feels like they’re trying to make up for the whole “I knew you were a hero the whole time” thing. Don’t think they expected her to be so hated after that so they made her as sweet as possible this season lol

Yea it was kinda disappointing to see but I blame the writing mostly. I hope they can improve her character even more. I kinda wish we saw like her reaction to Mark telling her “I love you” and her saying it back or something as they’re leaving.

I really liked the way they were communicating before getting it on

"So, you aren't gonna crush me right?"

Felt like she'd watched The Boys

I was literally waiting for Mark to go "Oh, right, you mean like The Boys?"

Imagine the visit to the campus clinic/hospital trying to explain why there are all these fractures in your hip and pelvis bones.

Doctor worrying that Amber is being abused etc

Mark: it's because I'm in-

Amber: insatiable in bed!

They have been dating for a year and a half it's confusing to me it is first time they are having sex

2

u/Lucifer_Crowe Nov 19 '23

Amber probably wanted to focus on school/to make sure Mark was someone worth losing her virginity to.

u/Feniks_Gaming Nov 19 '23

I don't know. From that it looks like it was Marks first time. Not sure about Amber.

In previous seasons there was a lot of scenes of them kissing on the bed laid down I just assumed they had sex like a year ago.

Probably because of character design they look older than they are if they are just going to university they were 16- 17 last season but characters look like they wear in their early 20s like 23 or something.

Rex having sex while dating Eve similar age to Mark also suggested to me that they were older.

She's got this feeling now you know

1

u/Zankman Nov 23 '23

She just needed a reason beyond "Ugggh how could you not tell me? You don't trust me!", perhaps something tragic that could help explain it.

Either that or have her admit that it was selfish and apologize, with Mark forgiving her since being in a relationship is challenging for 18yos as is, especially with such circumstances.

She's definitely gonna die lol. That last conversation was between them. I've been thinking "why are they going on with these charade with Mark and Amber's relationship when clearly he's going to end up with eve". They made her super nice and their last convo was about how much she respected what he does and right as he says I love you it gets cut off. Amber I'd going to get killed while Mark is away at Thraxa

They should have just killed her off to be honest. She was so toxic in season 1. The retcon to make her nicer this time around would have been better used on a new love interest.

u/Billiammaillib321 Nov 18 '23

Jesus there’s no winning here, people wanted her to be supportive/understanding and she’s doing that to the utmost. Now people are pissed they got exactly that?

It’s not a retcon, it’s reciprocating the honesty she’s now getting from her SO and is now doing her best to compromise because she’s aware of the bigger picture. This shit just makes sense, they’re putting in the work now and things are working out because of it.

No people wanted her to be a well written character, she was not. She was supposed to be a strong willed person who has her flaws but has an earnest heart, which she did not have. She used altruism as a mask for her innate narcissism.

The worst character in the show and other characters had the audacity of defending her. As though mark saving literal lives is less important than dealing with his love interests toxic insecurity. She was a horrible person who only cared about how good she looked and mark not involving her in his justifiable secret triggered her ego.

All that has apparently gone away entirely and now she's the most supportive character in the show solely because of fan backlash. There's nothing to criticize her for in season 2, she's not even abrasive or entitled anymore, even towards people other than Mark.

They Mary Sued her with no character development to explain it beyond 'Oh Mark is honest now that's all, dust under the rug. She's so understanding now; she's too good for him!'

Amber season 2 is not the same character as Amber season 1. They retconned her personality in an attempt to salvage what they intended versus what they presented and I guarantee you the reaction to her being dumped or dying under some rubble in season 2 episode 1 would have brought vindication to the wider audience.

Instead we're left here just accepting the middling outcome of her becoming a better person not because the story encouraged it, but because the writers panicked and gave her a proverbial lobotomy.

I don’t feel like Amber changed from Season 1 to Season 2. Rather, she changed in the very last episode of Season 1, after the battle with Omni-Man and seeing the toll it took on him. She seemed to become more understanding at that point, don’t you think?

12

u/RealAbd121 Nov 17 '23

Feels like they’re trying to make up

I actually think the opposite, she was supposed to be this if you go back and look at her characterization and her season one drama was just stupid writing.

u/22bebo Nov 18 '23

And in-universe Mark, who she thought basically couldn't be hurt, nearly died. Thinking you nearly lost someone can cause you to really change your behavior towards them.

5

u/tarentale Nov 18 '23

Yea it feels like it was deliberate. And this season she seems so mature and understanding. Maybe she learned a lesson? Either way I’m actually her scenes. She’s likable to me now.

5

u/-Rapier Allen the Alien Nov 19 '23

I think she was lying about it, back then.

She was so pent up with anger that Mark never showed up and never gave her a reason for letting her down constantly that she let her emotions do the talking there, dismissing the "I'm actually a superhero" excuse completely.

And she was right on blaming him for not telling her about his identity, since they've been dating for so long and it can be interpreted as a sign of distrust. It's as Eve tells him later ("yeah, don't tell your identity to anyone right off the bat, but don't also leave them hanging forever").

She acted as a person would and I really love the writing of the show in general.

Glad they learned lol

u/LordCaptain Nov 18 '23

People hate/hated Debbie? Why?

1

u/Redditer51 Nov 18 '23

From what I've been told that's how Amber was in the comics. Just a sweet-natured person.

1

u/bakakubi Nov 23 '23

“I knew you were a hero the whole time” thing.

Well to be fair, that part was insanely stupid.
