Discussion/ Debate What is a Tariff?

From my understanding, the theoretical hope of a tariff is to increase foreign prices, driving consumers to buy domestic, so you could argue that tariffs can indirectly affect foreign countries’ business and potential profit, but in a direct literal sense American tariffs are applied to American consumers on imported goods and at the moment of purchase don’t cost foreign entities anything…right?

Tips & Advice Best Advice on Where to put my money

Hi 39M, finally broken into 6 figs. Had a horrible string of jobs where I couldn't save, focused on debt, and I'm finally on a career path where I can put money aside.

Roth is at 35k, 401k at 33k. I dabble in some stocks. I feel like I'm kind of screwed but that's why I'm here. Should I focus on building an emergency fund? Focus on a savings account? Open a traditional IRA and add to that? I'm almost maxed on the Roth and 401k so what should I do next? I understand this isn't advice from financial advisors so I'll take any advice with a grain of salt but definitely consider all advice and points to consider.

Question Would a progressive sales tax be a good way to get around the loopholes used by billionaire types?

I don't know if this is a discussed idea but I thought of it the other day. What if say there was an x% sales tax on items worth under 100 dollars then a 2x% on items work between 100-1000 dollars 3x% from 1000-100k then 4x from 100k-1million etc. etc.

Source: https://www.census.gov/housing/hvs/data/charts/fig07.pdf

Some snippets:

In 1990 65% of 35-40 year olds owned a home. By 2022 it was 62%, only slightly less.

In 1990 38% of those under 35 owned a home. It's an identical 38% in 2022.

Educational IRA contributions

I’m not sure where it was that I read a post about how often folks contribute to their IRAs, but I can’t find it.

So my question to you wonderful brilliant people: how often do you contribute to your IRA account? If able to afford to max it out every year, what is it like broken down to your personalized contribution plan, whether it be weekly or monthly?

Cheers
