Hell, the north too. Take my word for it and do NOT open the comments on any MLive, News or Freep Juneteenth posts today. Good lord.

Officially all in on the Langdon regime. This was so needed. There would’ve been a stale taste in the back of the mouth all season had we moved forward. As someone who has dogged the shit out of Gores, props to him for eating the money & progressing.
You smell that folks? It’s the smell of genuine optimism.

u/DelayedNewYorker 15d ago
Praise Gores for this one. Not many owners would do this
131
u/comeonmang126 15d ago
Yea he’s real asf for eating that cash but fuck how he earned it
126
u/DelayedNewYorker 15d ago
100%. Private equity and prison telephone price gouging is a leech upon society
31
u/MrJuanDuck Jaden Ivey 15d ago
this and he made the final call on this disastrous signing anyways. Didn’t earn plus points with me all he did was make a fat mistake and fire the mistake a season later. Mistakes were still made (again)
53
u/which_association_42 15d ago
Agree but I think the Monty signing and firing are evidence Gores wants to win. you don’t do either of those if you’re just in this for fame and fortune.
12
u/Superorganism123 Cade Cunningham 15d ago
Wanting to win and knowing how to win are 2 different things.
3
u/Embarrassed_Ad_7825 Marcus Sasser 15d ago
Yeah but knowing how to win for us should never include monty Williams in retrospect . Happy we can start fresh
11
u/MrJuanDuck Jaden Ivey 15d ago
true that, let’s hope langdon is truly in charge of future decisions now. Started off well with Vinson and firing monty for now
3
u/itssosalty Dennis Rodman 15d ago
It was generally a well accepted signing when we got Monty. Sure in hindsight…

Saw Illitch lacking and decided to Sheila Ford Hamp this shit, well done Tom
22
u/FailResorts 15d ago
I can’t help but notice the Lions started turning things around when the women began running things. Old Lady Martha still swung for the fences and missed. She knew the club could do better and made changes to try and push the team to expect more. Sheila was able to finally achieve that dream with Campbell and the current setup.

Since Mr I died and his jerk off of a son took over, it all went to shit.

Probably means he’ll just up the price of those prison phone calls.

No this is not worthy of any praise. See this is why we continue to let billionaire leaches ruin so many lives because we somehow thank them for spending what amounts to .9% of his net worth? If you had 100k in the bank (which the vast majority of people in the US do not) would you deserve praise because you paid 1k to repair your neighbors car that you backed into? This is nothing and doesn’t affect the cap like when he had to eat the rest of Blake’s contract cause of another stupid decision. Especially when you stole the 1k from your other neighbor while they were in prison for selling pot.

Gores is dumb and doesn’t understand basketball, but he’s willing to spend money. Have to respect that. Hopefully with Trajan in there now he feels comfortable leaving all basketball decisions to him

u/bugab0010 15d ago
It’s the smell of genuine optimism.
I swear we say that every year

u/YourRealName 15d ago
This sub loves the mystery box of the unknown: future draft picks, cap space, and coaching vacancies are all the idealized versions of what they could be until there’s an actual name attached.
3
u/AarunFast 15d ago
The "optimism" is that the billionaire owner fired the one of highest-paid coaches in the NBA after one season, which was also the worst in franchise history? Oh, and we have the 5th pick in a historically bad draft. Things are great!

Yep after that last season I’m not getting any hopes up until I see the on court product
2
u/bugab0010 15d ago
yeah that's exactly my point. especially after all the "aged like milk" threads from last year that we were reposting earlier this off-season

u/comeonmang126 15d ago
I’ve never been more of a Langdon believer. This alone has earned him years of goodwill from me

I feel bad for weaver. He never had picked his own coach, now his predecessor will get his in year 1, along with taking the credit for developing all of our lottery talent.
Weaver will be forgotten by most but I’ll never forget the cornerstones he gave us

Had no interest coaching here but you’d be a dummy to turn down 90 mil.
29
u/EatingFurniture 15d ago
Hopefully hard for him to get a new job after this shit
23
u/DrLee_PHD 15d ago
There's no way he will ever coach again. He's done. No sane team will touch him after this.
14
u/Detroittigersfan1029 Peton 15d ago
the thing is most teams would take him as a coach but would Monty even want to coach at this point ? dude has the bag and he didn't really want to coach before he took the Pistons job, he was super wishy washy before he took it
8
7
u/TempoMortigi 15d ago
I 100% guarantee he coaches in the nba again. If he did a horrible job with a good team it would be one thing. I’m not saying he’s a good coach, but he will absolutely get another opportunity.

lol people were talking about him going to the Lakers a week ago, he can definitely coach again if he wants to.

u/kentbenson 15d ago
That’s the point for Monty though. He didn’t want to work. Now he has 90 million and doesn’t want to work.

Killian Hayes has to be the only player in NBA history to be a starter on a team (not due to extenuating circumstances like COVID lineups) and then be waived and subsequently not be in the league simply based on talent

How? He made it clear he didn’t want to coach and yet that absolute clown Gores just kept throwing money at him until he couldn’t refuse. This whole situation is on Gores.

There's good candidates out there and not many openings, let's go!

Trajan got Fred Vinson in a gym with Ivey and Vinson came away saying he could fix him so Monty had to go.

When you can get fired and still receive a significant portion of 65 million dollars, knowing that if you want to, another company would hire you: that is the American dream.

I don't believe that Monty is a bad coach. But I also believe that the Pistons' roster is not that bad to only win 14 games.
4
u/MedicalBoardTA 15d ago
Comparing this roster to the horrible 76ers or Charlotte teams, you’d think this team would win 35-40

Idk that I’ve ever been so happy to see someone get fired 😅 what an amazing day. This is a new start for this team with Weaver and Monty gone.
3
u/Defacto_Champ 15d ago
Almost makes me sick how much money he’s getting to do nothing. I bust my ass at my job and won’t make more the 15 % of that in my entire job career. I clearly picked the wrong career.
3
u/ShippingNotIncluded Ausar Thompson 15d ago
Credit to Gores for not letting the money be the deciding factor here.
This new regime has a legit fresh start

Imagine if for Trajan Langdon evaluation of Monty he asked him to breakdown several different playoff series and possible adjustments, etc...
And he bombed on enough of them he just said thanks for your service.
