The Detroit Pistons accidentally made Wingstop millions of dollars. News

Post image

Every fan in Detroit gets 5 free Wingstop wings when the Pistons win. Then the Pistons lost an NBA-record 28 straight games, and the promotion went viral.

On December 30th, the Pistons got their first win in 2 months, and fans flooded Wingstop.

The result?

Wingstop made $19,000,000 in net income that quarter, a massive 46% jump from the previous quarter. And it didn't end there.

In late January, Giannis went viral for trying to scan a QR code mid-game to get free Wingstop wings. Then a couple weeks later, he posted a video of himself boarding a plane to All-Star Weekend with a huge bag of Wingstop’s lemon pepper wings.

The result?

Wingstop stock reached an 80% increase compared to 6 months ago. Of course it’s not all because of the NBA, but the free marketing didn’t hurt.

The Pistons may be the ultimate losers this season, but they created the ultimate winners: Wingstop.

I still have never eaten at wingstop

u/FuzzyGuarantee2350 Feb 21 '24

Maybe you should wingstart

17

u/dizzymidget44 Feb 21 '24

Why? Are they really that good?

113

u/FuzzyGuarantee2350 Feb 21 '24

Idk they pay me to say that

u/Accomplished_Fish712 Feb 21 '24

Mango habaneros fire plus the fries and the ranch as well.

u/Huge_JackedMann Feb 21 '24

It really is the best ranch in the business. Wings are ok, I'm sure local bars have better but you could put that ranch on a shoe and it would take ok.

1

u/drugrugless Feb 23 '24

Haha. I have legitimately seen people chugging cups of it in the store.

u/Ok_Extreme7597 Feb 25 '24

I know this is probably controversial, but I do agree Wingstop is probably top 3 for ranch, but Outback and the little kick their ranch gives is one of the only reasons why I missed Outback when my local location closed.

u/TheyCallMeDrunkNemo Feb 25 '24

You days late to the convo but I wanted to co-sign this opinion. Wingstop the champ, but Outback is top 3 for me

It can be pretty hit or miss sometimes but when it hits, it HITS

1

u/Peter-Tao Feb 24 '24

Man I tried it once and the chicken was super dry made me hesitant to ever go back again lol

1

u/rhaggee Jaden Ivey Feb 24 '24

Gotta try a different location

4

u/Nevermind04 Feb 21 '24

Like every chain there are good locations and bad ones. Good ones are really good though, especially for fast food wings.

1

u/StanimaJack Feb 22 '24

As far as chain restaurants for chicken wings go their product is the best.

1

u/wheresbicki Feb 22 '24

Worst heartburn ever

1

u/JimHarbaughTheChamp Feb 22 '24

Comparable to BWWs.

1

u/LittyTitty45 Feb 24 '24

not at all they’re miles above bdubs

1

u/cdm3500 Feb 22 '24

I mean, if you like flavorful wings then yes. They are good.

1

u/A_FerociousTeddyBear Feb 22 '24

They are solid. I prefer BDubs over Wingstop though. Half boneless desert heat and half boneless lemon pepper or the BBQ ones.

Desert heat is my all time favorite.

1

u/Henry-The-Red Feb 25 '24

Desert heat is my favorite as well! I got a jar of the seasoning, so now I get Honey BBQ and Medium, then toss them in desert heat. Good stuff.

1

u/CaptainCorpse666 Feb 23 '24

They are not.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 23 '24

If you like wings or chicken in general, they're very good most of the time. If you don't, you probably won't like them.

1

u/LittyTitty45 Feb 24 '24

they really are

1

u/AngloSaxophoner Feb 24 '24

No but the pun was

1

u/AxM0ney Feb 25 '24

Yes. Miles a head of bdubs.

2

u/Gunz37 Feb 23 '24

This comment is so good!

I'm thinking we buy wing stop stock and take this regarded shit over to r/wallstreetbets

18

u/CoolHandHazard Cade Cunningham Feb 21 '24

Their voodoo fries are incredible. Gives me the shits but totally worth

4

u/Level_Somewhere Feb 21 '24

Thank you for your sacrifice

9

u/Princess_Egg Detroit Shock Feb 21 '24

Wingstop is low-quality, but it's the cheapest wing around so it balances out. Definitely worth it if you're craving wings but don't want to sell your firstborn

5

u/dizzymidget44 Feb 21 '24

Cheaper than Captain Jays or nu wave? Where you get the full size wings

3

u/Clithzbee Feb 21 '24

Congrats. Your trophy is in the mail.

8

u/dizzymidget44 Feb 21 '24

I’m moving in 6 days so hopefully it’s express

1

u/Name-Initial Feb 23 '24

Its aight. Not great, not bad. If you want wings and your near one its not a bad option, but i wouldnt go out of my way to go to one.

1

u/markieefff Feb 25 '24

I like Wingstop, but it’s not my favorite wings.. just a heads up their default fry seasoning has sugar in it so if you don’t like that asked for unseasoned or I prefer Cajun seasoned fries

1

u/grundlemania Feb 25 '24

You’re not really missing anything

-1

u/Murph_E23 Feb 21 '24

Ate there once and felt like absolute shit. There are a lot better wings in the city like at McShanes.

u/Knee_Deep_In_Muff Feb 21 '24

I was going to comment how bad wingstop is, but then realized I was thinking of Detroit Wing Company. There's too many wing places now. The price of chicken wings is insane. That's why I'm a thigh man now. Boomer rant over.

5

u/SeventyTimes_7 Feb 21 '24

Wingstop is also bad. I'd prefer DWC even.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

nah wingstop slaps sometimes. They either got the best wings you ever had, or they suck and you in the bathroom for 24 hours

1

u/charliepatrick Feb 23 '24

You have to order them well done and they usually slap

22

u/Anxious_Ad_3570 Feb 21 '24

Am I alone in thinking those unis are kind of awesome? 🤣

8

u/SuperDizz Feb 21 '24

I like the green

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

How do you feel about that neon green stuff Atlanta and Minnesota used to wear couple of years back?

4

u/Anxious_Ad_3570 Feb 21 '24

I dig it. I always thought it was awesome since the Seahawks started doing it. This is coming from a guy who wears nothing but earth tones. Kind of weird

3

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '24

Make a tier list for all the green jerseys in sports. The packers, sonic, bucks, Eagles, all of them 😂

13

u/DoeJumars Feb 21 '24

Damn Stew got replaced on the top 5 real quick

9

u/JackalOfAllTraders Feb 21 '24

Wingstop chicken is so much better than BDubs. If they could just up their sauce game. I doubt the Pistons promotion has anything to do with their success since the promotion was only local.

3

u/MindlessYesterday668 Feb 21 '24

Have you tried the wings at Hooters?

How is Killian not in the graphic? He is the MVP of this team!

2

I prefer wingsluts

1

u/DiaperBandit_ Feb 21 '24

Troy weaver wingstop sleeper cell

0

u/motorcitydevil Feb 21 '24

That's great. Monty Williams can go screw himself.

1

Incoming corner of jersey lol

WING to the moon! 🚀🚀🚀🚀🌙🌙🌙 Making money while just handing out teddies! Are the Pistons the real autists of the NBA?

Can someone give us some deep DD on this stock please?

1

u/noahlife1 Feb 24 '24

Make those the new jerseys lol

1

u/Extra-Environment-87 Feb 24 '24

Isn’t the quarter over quarter comparison pretty shoddy with the Super Bowl being in the recent quarter?

1

u/bigwillystyle93 Feb 25 '24

I’m sorry, but how does any of this equate to “accidentally” making them millions of dollars? Is it entirely purposeful? Like, it’s the point of doing a promotion? Also I don’t think the Pistons and Giannis are responsible for an 80% stock increase but that could just be me

1

u/FlyinIllini21 Feb 25 '24

Wingstop is good idc
