I've done skydiving on the first date. But....even worse....
I've also done this on a first date.
Some people, like myself, are just born stupid.

I matched a girl on Tinder about 3 years ago and she was mocking me because I mentioned high adventure but didn't have any pictures doing stuff. She wanted to go to a climbing gym for a first date (her idea of dipping the toes in high adventure) and...conveniently...I happened to know the owner of one.
So I set it up, we went - and in the entrance vestibule/counter, there's a bunch of pictures (100+) of local climbers doing "stuff" over the years. I had three pictures in there, one lead roping Sundial (a local landmark peak), myself with the owner on the Carstenz Pyramid, and another on the summit of Vinson.
I just went and stood under the Carstenz photo and remarked on how that climber looked an awful lot like me.

She liked the date but somehow felt I was deceptive (I think from letting herself talk trash and come across as a fool for the whole time she was taunting me).
I did offer to make it up to her by taking her wingsuiting (I have a beginner suit - a Swift3 - that I offered to loan her). But she declined.
Guess she wasn't that up for adventure. Win some, lose some.

Most ziplines have some sort of mechanism to stop you before you reach the pole at the end.

Normally, you brake - where her hand sits on top, you'd pull down on it and use friction on the line. But obvi, that isn't happening with Sleeping Beauty.
On a high angle pitch, there's usually slack at the bottom that slows you down. Can't see that here, but there's also, at the very end of the line, what's called a stop block - basically its an impact space/compression area, that absorbs the force of the trolley by hitting the block with springs and other compression devices that absorb the force and then rebound any excess energy back up the line. Dude will get janked around like a spider in the wind, but he should be largely okay.
Favorite stop block I ever saw was across a gorge in Peru, where the line just ran through about 4 tires...those tires were supposed to absorb all your energy.
I didn't see anything like a backup line or tensioner from her viewpoint on her kit, so I'm guessing they didn't have those - lines that may run the length of the zipline, for pulling the trolley back and acting as an e-brake.

This reminds me of my skydiving trip. The workers would tell stories of people passing out, getting on the plane but backing out within seconds of jumping.

Ever since I made a promise to myself to stop trying to snap pics first and enjoy later, it is INCREDIBLE to me how folks really can’t just enjoy shit and live in the moment…..

We went to Great Adventure in 2022 and the first thing I did was get on Kingda Ka. I've been on it at least 80 times since 2006, it's a nothing burger. At least it used to be because I don't remember shutting after the ascend. Passed out again in 2023.

Honestly I’m not surprised. I did this once on my birthday and I didn’t faint but stepping off that platform sure felt like I was about to commit suicide. I don’t know how I did it but whew! It was scary.
