Neurodivergent women can mask more efficiently than men because we’re socialized to be people pleasers. On the other hand, men are not taught to express emotions outside of anger, so they’ll often lash out in order to feel heard.

If you tell people "i have XYZ" they form specific expectations of you that likely aren't true but just based of media stereotypes. Where as if you're just "weird" you can be any kind of weird. And then atleast people are reacting to your actual actions and words rather than a false image of you they assumed.

In my son’s school there’s this one really nice neurotypical kid that seems to be “adopting” all the neurodivergent kids lol. When my son got invited to his party I went and chilled with the rest of the parents and they all said this kid just kinda became friends with their neurodivergent kid.

Yeah, communication is really hard for me because I take stuff way too literally and tone is super hard to parse. I also really struggled with idioms for a while.

I've gotten a lot better at keeping up at the old age of 37 but I still miss about four jokes a day if I had to guess. Idioms I'm very good at since I memorized a book of American idioms.
