Someone tell me what the downsides of having a racoon as a pet are.

Because all I'm seeing is totes adorbs.

They steal everything, burrow into soft furniture, climb into ducts if they can, and you have to completely childproof your house. It's like having a toddler who is awake during the night and day for a few years.

They will open anything they can.

I know it would have destroyed the world, but I wish this would have been Rockets life.

I don't really believe in that aligator part and whole that story can be made up with an already domesticated racoon, but tbh I didn't know till today that they are so cute 🙈

Does no one else care about the doberman/corgi/german shepherd at all? What kind of dog even is that?

The dog appears to think the same thing.

If you give a racoon a cookie...

Lil girl looked super mad. The glare. She's probably so sick of her mom or dad filming. It's really cute, don't get me wrong, but kids first, no?

Don’t they have to worry about rabies?

Then the Department of Fish and Wildlife came, took the raccoon, and issued a fine.

Normalize raccoons as pets

I grew up in the country. Baby raccoons as pets happened occasionally. People would “find” a baby and raise them in the house. My understanding is as they reached adulthood (puberty?) they would tend to become more feral and would be euthanized. Then the family would wait until the next spring and “find” a new one.

When they reach sexual maturity they will need to be released to the wild or they will tear you up. Spouse had one growing up.

How much of the feral is true tho

I can’t say. I never experienced it, and just going by what I was told.
