Discussion (2022 Series) Just finished the 2022 series.

I haven’t been paying a lot of attention to network or cable series the last few years so just discovered the show on Peacock. I binged it over the last week and just finished the last episode.

I enjoyed season 1. It felt like they did a good job of bringing Quantum Leap into the 21st century. They stuck with the overall story of a man leaping through time to make right what once went wrong. The threads going on in the present fit in well and didn’t detract much from the stories taking place in the past.

Spoilers for both seasons below.

I was disappointed with how under utilized Janis was. She helped Ben with his plan, was captured and then was just ignored for most of the season. It just really felt pointless for her character to even exist at all. I wish they had just made her part of the team.

I did have issues with how they did the slingshotting for him to go to the future but after thinking about it most of it was well done. I think it would have been a bit better if the furthest jump to the past was closer to the end of the season but that’s my only real complaint with that.

It also annoyed me that they kept referring to Martinez as Leaper X even after they knew his actual name. It was just weird.

Unfortunately season 2 wasn’t as well done. Season 1 ends with the accelerator activating like someone is coming through and Addison’s look of excitement changing to a look of confusion. I thought s2 was going to open with Sam coming out or even a random person. Like instead of Ben coming home it pulled someone else home instead.

What we got just didn’t live up to it. If the leaper and their team are in sync for the passage of time how did they lose him for three years? If the system follows the leaper then how did it lose Ben? Why was a new chip required to magically allow the system to find him? It just doesn’t make sense.

The worst part is the contradictory nature of the entire season 2 arc. The changes Ben makes don’t affect the future until he makes them. So how could Jeffery be the person to have made the chip that helped them find Ben if Jeffrey didn’t exist until Ben had altered Hannah’s future enough to allow for Jeffrey’s birth. He shouldn’t have exited until after episode 8.

The fact that Hannah doesn’t seem to age over the 27 years between when Ben first meets her makes the whole thing seem ridiculous. It’s even worse when she asks Ben if she looks older when she looks exactly the same despite having aged over 20 years. They made Ian look older in season 1 so why couldn’t they do the same thing for Hannah in season 2?

I really enjoyed the regular occurrence of Hannah and that she would figure out the formula for bringing Ben home. I wish that they had her walk in to the facility in the present and hand it to them or even had her step in to the imaging chamber to talk to Ben.

I hope another network or Netflix picks it up for season 3. I would love to see what happens after that interesting season finale.

Are you satisfied with the ending of Ben and Addison reunited but are both leapers now or would you have rather it ended with both of them home.

Miscellaneous Possible Easter egg Locker names?

S02E14 All-American. In the locker room scene around 30:00, all the lockers have funny names.

J. Mehoff D. Rivers A. Morale

This must be intentional. I wonder how many other Easter eggs I missed.

Miscellaneous Quantum Leap Baloo Edition

Oh boy, we all know Baloo is quantum leaping throughout the Disney universe. 'Theorising that one could time-travel within his own lifetime, Dr. Baloo Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator...and vanished. He awoke to find himself trapped in the past, facing mirror images that were not his own, and driven by an unknown force to change history for the better. And so Baloo finds himself leaping from life to life, striving to put right what once went wrong, and hoping each time that his next leap...will be the leap home!'

Discussion (Original) Dean Stockwell Application Post

I'm rewatching for the first time in a long time and Dean is even better than I remembered he was. Watched the Boogeyman last night. Sometimes an actor having two characters in a scene comes off badly, but Dean was perfect as the devil and as being regular Al as well. I know I've seen him in other things that I can't recall at the moment, but this is making me want to go back and check out more on of his work. Who else here loves Dean?!

Edited to add: Yes, I meant appreciation. Whoops!

Managed to find this gem of an article, looks to be the digital version of one that was published in the EW print magazine way back in 1991. Aside from not knowing how to spell the name of the show, there were plenty of good production stories about the classic series I had never been aware of.

To me, the most interesting part was what was happening behind the scenes during the two months between “Runaway” and “8 1/2 Months” when NBC had pulled the show off the schedule. It’s crazy to think how if not for the amount of leverage the show used to have it might have been cancelled half a season before “Shock Theater.” Quantum Leap ‘22, by comparison, never had any leverage at all, which is just kind of sad.

Anyway, the article is a decent enough read, and it’s somethin to chew on now that new content has dried up.

Noticed last night that there are only a couple weeks left. When that's gone the only QL on any UK streaming service will be the 2023 S1 on Paramount+. S2 remains a UK dream.

Discussion (Original) Complete OG series on amazon for cheap!

Hey, y'all my mom and I were just talking about QL (OG not revival) and she decided to look and see if there was a complete series.

Available on Amazon. $29 for complete series 18 discs on DVD. Recommend buying it.

Though they do have Dean's name wrong and I don't see how to correct the listing. I think they merged Dean and Deborah P. Either that or Dean has some explaining to do. Well either that or Al and Ziggy have become one.

Discussion (Original) M.I.A.

The first time I was exposed to Quantum Leap was in the summer of 1990. I can still remember exactly where I was and what happened that day. I was spending a week at my grandparent’s house in Indiana and this particular day I had spent all day helping my grandpa split firewood. I was 12 at the time. I never really grew up in the country or on a farm per se so I remember him wanting me to take it easy and just go inside and relax in the ac. I only wanted to be outside helping him and working up a sweat. Maybe it was to prove to myself that I could split wood and work with my hands. Or prove to him that I was just as capable of my cousin who had grown up in the country on a farm and spent more time with him than I did.

I remember it was long day and after we had eaten dinner, I went down into their basement and took a shower. When I came back up, my grandpa was watching MIA on tv. I’m also certain it was this episode because he was talking about how there was this funny show on where this guy is dressed up as woman. I joined him on the couch with a bowl of vanilla ice cream and we watched the rest of the episode.

If I’m not mistaken, the next night or another night, there was another episode on that we watched. Or maybe it was the next summer. But I do remember another time that I was staying with them during the summer and QL was on. And I remember wanting to replicate that first time and the fun we had. But of course it couldn’t be replicated.

My question is how was this possible seeing as how the original air date of MIA was in May of 1990? Does anyone recall if NBC aired QL on reruns or repeat during the summer? Because this is the only thing that makes sense to me. I was out of school for the summer so there would have been no way for me to have been at their house in May. I was staying at their house for an entire week and my aunt, uncle and another cousin picked me up and they brought me home from Indiana all the way to Michigan where I was living.

Discussion (2022 Series) S2 Ben/Hannah Missed Opportunity

Do you think that if Season 2 of the new show had been longer we would have gotten an episode where Ben met Hannah while he was inhabiting the body of a woman? I could see that having an effect on Hannah's character and their relationship.
