Let’s talk about impeachment! I'm Robert Reich, former Secretary of Labor, author, professor, and co-founder of Inequality Media. AMA. AMA-Finished

I'm Robert Reich, former Secretary of Labor for President Clinton and Chancellor’s Professor of Public Policy at the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley. I also co-founded Inequality Media in 2014.

Earlier this year, we made a video on the impeachment process: The Impeachment Process Explained

Please have a look and subscribe to our channel for weekly videos. (My colleagues are telling me I should say, “Smash that subscribe button,” but that sounds rather violent to me.)

Let’s talk about impeachment, the primaries, or anything else you want to discuss.

Do you honestly think the current Republican Party is significantly different from the Gingrich “moral majority” crowd?

It is. You can't pickle your brain in crap for decades and come out of that the same as when you went in.

But the Gingrich crew already had shit-pickled brains.

Well they started the pickling. But it’s the difference between a cucumber after a day in brine vs. a cucumber after 20+ years in it.

Don't mistake exploitative conniving evil for stupidity.

I'll answer and say yes. I mean that was bad enough in its own way but it did not have a strong cult like following of one particular person at all costs.

I blame the tea party. Or whoever was behind it. They were the test bed and Palin was the prototype.

She was the beginning of the dumb in public office normalization. Or a milestone at least.

Yes and no. The party itself may have had elements of this, but the rank and file Republican voter would not have had the same zeal shared by special interests like the Moral Majority. He's absolutely right that it's a changed game.

The “ moral majority “ was essentially a creation of Jerry Falwell. His successor is his son Jerry Jr. who heads Liberty University, a scam operation run for brain washed evangelicals. Jerry Sr. has been responsible for one of the two biggest corrupting influences on American democracy, the attack on the separation of church and state. The other of course is Citizen’s United, brought to you by the U.S. Supreme Court. Good ole’ bible thumpin’ religion and money will hook Americans every time.

Yeah, it is. They were significantly more ideological, and not just blatantly loyal to personalities.
