The sidewalk I was riding my bike on was littered with hundreds of Pokémon cards.

For real, this would take at least an hour to clean up, and even more so once some city lawn mower service comes over and shreds it all

me personally, i collect the common ones just to have all the different Pokémon, not just the rare ones and i just find this a waste.

Pokémon seems way less fun when it’s high stakes gambling instead of finding cool looking attack pets

I wonder if there's a format where you can only use Basic Pokemon. That'd seem like fun.

u/Mattpudzilla 1d ago
I believe there is. MTG players also have a pauper format, where only common cards are allowed. Far cheaper to play and much more fun for casual games.

In Pokemon, there is Basic and Basic. Basic fulfills the opening rule (You must set a Basic Pokemon as your active Pokemon before the game can begin). However, to fulfill that rule, you draw and have to put down this card this card and your opponent puts this card.
The other Basic is essentially "Basic but without a rule box." It would be nice for an official format where Pokemon with Rule Boxes are not allowed, but Magic is an exception in supporting cheap formats—other card games want to make money by players buying the biggest most beautiful busted cards available.

No, I meant like actual Basic, as in no EX, no GX, no V, no VMAX, if it has any rule box, it's out.

Im like this with baseball and hockey cards, I don't need a fancy Reverse Foil Super Holographic Xtreme I just want some default base set cards of the guys I watched growing up

An angry parent threw away his son’s collection. Grab them all.

I still don’t understand why they spread them all over the sidewalk on a random street instead of just throwing them in the trash

Probably done in front of the kid.. “see them get lost”.. and was grounded at home, that is why never returned to try to get them back, or they were passing by to a very further destination.

I’d be crouching all day long after them!

If I cared about Pokémon I probably would too, but I only had a phase about Pokémon when I was 9 lol.

I got into Magic the gathering because i found hundreds of Magic cards scattered for blocks down the alley behind my apartment.

Surprisingly common sight in Los Angeles. Steal cards and ditch all the crap not worth anything, which is almost all the cards.

I work at Walmart. At my store, Pokémon cards get stolen daily by people of all ages. Usually they open them in a specific aisle at the back of the store that cannot be seen from any of our cameras. I wonder when they’ll add a camera because they certainly know 😂

Also, the crew who laid that sidewalk were on crack

There is a fire hydrant in the way.

And it didn't magically pop up. There are plans for that that issue lmao
Looks like someone messed up and it's in the middle of nowhere so they said fuck it.

I saw the same thing at my work. Behind the building I was working on, bad side of town. Ton of cards, a baby blanket, some tampons, ice pad, water bottle and weed packets. Pretty sad scene. My guess was a parent and kid or something was there. I looked up to see graffiti saying something like “you’ll be remembered” above it. I don’t know what to think of the whole thing but could also just happen to be a bunch of random stuff making a scene.

u/SuperIsBored 1d ago
Little hard to see, I know, but I promise there is at least over 100. There was also about a dozen behind me as well. Unfortunately, I can't post more than 1 photo, or I would've shown more.
All those dark and light spots in the grass are cards too

I’ve seen two huge TV just tossed out on the side of the road in Hawaii. Not a single store within sight could explain how or why the TV was disbanded…

u/IandIreckon 2d ago
In Hawaii it costs money to dump some things, so they just found a place to dump it illegally, for no cost.

I used to see the absolute weirdest stuff riding longer distances. My friends who ran cross country in high school had a locker full of wild stuff they found on the side of the road, like a 3 foot tall teenage mutant ninja turtle stuffie.

My immediate thought was a family driving through here and a parent is so mad at their kid nd threw their collection of cards out the window 😅

Definitely stolen, had some kids walk into the zumiez I managed a while back acting very suspect, saw them huddled by my trashcan and went to see what they were up to, only for them to toss a bunch of shit in there and run, I think I counted maybe 10 different packs of cards in the trash with maybe 3 cards total. Crazy what collecting Pokémon cards has turned into

I bet you just left them and didn’t clean it up
1
u/SuperIsBored 1d ago
Yes I did, that would take hours.

u/timeforgoomy 1d ago
Those things can be worth a lot though 😭

u/Reddit-JustSkimmedIt 1d ago
Thieves steal the packs, open them and keep the valuable cards, then dump the rest. There’s nothing but common cards there.
0
u/timeforgoomy 1d ago
That's true but there's also people who get cars stolen or cars broken into and people just dump that stuff too. Crackheads don't know or care about Pokémon cards.

Man, I work a few hundred feet from a Walmart. The smoke shed in my work's parking lot is always surrounded by Pokémon cards and the ripped up boxes. The shed is at the edge of the lot and up against the woods, so you just see Pokémon cards littering the ground between the trees while having a smoke. The facilities guys are always asking us of we've "seen the Pokémon bandits" in action yet. Got an encampment up in the woods too so we've assumed they're stealing the packs as a group looking for rares.

People steal them from stores looking for rare ones and toss all the common ones. Happened by my work a few times.
