All universal remotes should have this feature.

- LG Magic Remote, you just point it and the cursor goes there

While nice for the rare times I need to type something on my TV, I hate the magic remote every other time. That cursor is just so damn annoying to me. I'm sure it's a unpopular opinion as I see many that like it.

If you center the cursor so it's where the remote is pointing its much easier to use. With a bit of practice you do it without thinking.

Just FYI giving the remote a little shake resets it's position, just in case you didn't know.
Also as soon as you press a direction on the d-pad the cursor should disappear, found it useful if you don't want the cursor.

It's more just the cursor itself, not the function of it. I accidentally hit it more often than I care to admit lol

Have you tried the ThinQ app? You can use the cursor on there like a laptop touchpad.

The thing is I don't want the cursor, or rarely do I want it. I wish there was an option that you had to double click the scroll wheel to activate it or something like that. It's not a big deal, just a mild annoyance of mine

Oh, I see what you mean now. Here's how to disable it:

Thanks, I'll check it out when I'm home later tonight. Not sure if I want it completly disabled or not though. I have gotten better with the remote over time, so it's not as much of an issue as when I first got it.

It can be re-enabled, but there's a few steps each way. If the cursor appears at an unwanted time you can click on the direction circle and it will disappear again. You're right though, there should be an easy way to disable/enable it but there isn't.

You can just not use it and use the normal navigation buttons instead

I just hit it accidentally too often I guess. It's often when for instance I'm hitting the down button, go too far, go to move my thumb back to up and then accidentally scroll the wheel while moving my thumb.

I have such a Philips remote controle (in white), and I think I've never used the keyboard on the back.
EDIT:
Looking at it:
it's an AZERTY keyboard, not QWERTY! This is a replacement remote I bought in 2016 (and the TV a few years before that). The fact that I only see the AZERTY now is proof I didn't use it ever

I’ve. Philips Ambilight TV with the keypad on the back. The best bit is that it’s never supported by an app when you really need it :)

Odd choice to split the keyboard where they do -- I naturally want to use my right hand to hit the Y, H, and N. Guess they needed a certain length for the batteries, though.

I have an old Vizio TV with that but the designers are stupid cause the blaster is in the front, so if you hold it like a normal person the TV doesn't get any input

I would love one of these. I have a wireless keyboard I use with my TV occasionally but this would be so convenient.

Pretty common for aftermarket remotes intended for set-top boxes; usually comes with an air mouse function as well. I have one that connects via a USB dongle that I switch around my TV and PC (the latter for when I'm in the mood to read/play something point-and-click and want to lay back on my chair).

Sony made a remote back in the day with a 'secret' advanced level flip side (no keyboard though). Sony RM-830

Many, many years ago my dad had a similar universal remote with a sliding cover on the bottom 1/3 that hid all the extra buttons.

It looks like an older Google tv from 15 years ago every model had a full keyboard somewhere

I have an old vizio c series that had a keyboard on the back too. Honestly part of me wishes it continued in the tech world, but once you log in, it's kinda pointless until you log in again.
Lg Magic remote pointer is a solid replacement, although Samsung keypad using an android device as a remote is probably the best option I've found.

Best I ever had was VCR remote that let you enter all the timer details on board then beam them over in one go. This was before on screen displays, so otherwise you had to squint at the tiny VCR display when programming.

I had this with my ambilight TV, hardly any apps support the keyboard, if I remember right you couldn't even put WiFi passwords in with it

I have that exact same one - and the keyboard doesn't work. I think about it every time I'm trying to spell out a new search in Youtube on that little stupid keyboard of theirs.
But the remote is good at something: eating batteries! I get a low battery notification every month, while the other remotes are still going strong on the first batch after a year and a half (I got a couple of spare remotes on Amazon, otherwise I am CONSTANTLY looking for a remote).
Love my Philips TV, but this remote is awful.

I had a remote that had that and it was awesome. Except for the fact that where you held your hands to be comfortable, would block the sender

Pretty common nowdays, haven't seen one without it in years.

What’s with all the pixelation, are you in witness protection or something?
