Why don’t you watch the show and find out?

They cover that in the very late parts of the show.

Nobody ever asks, "How are the Peacekeepers?"

They're basically the Empire if the Empire was also for hire.

You find out who and what exactly they are in, I think, season 4. Not that it really matters at any point.

The Peacekeepers are a paramilitary junta that governs an area of space adjacent to the Uncharted Territories, into which they intend to expand their power and influence. They're also hired as mercenaries by other governments. The Peacekeepers are (almost) exclusively members of the Sebacean species, an alien race similar to humans, primarily differentiated by longer lifespan (though this may be from their use of Translator Microbes and not an innate trait) and an extreme sensitivity to heat, potentially suffering permanent and debilitating brain damage from temperatures that would be well within the survivable range for a human. Their primary rivals are the Scarrans.

Was it ever implied that translator microbes extend lifespan? I always assumed the longer sebacean lifespan was a byproduct of being cold blooded.... Or at least some part of the genetic engineering performed on them

It came up in the short story "Horizons" by Rockne O'Bannon. It was written before Peacekeeper Wars and is blatantly non-canon, but it is from the creator of the show. I vaguely recall the idea being alluded to in the post-finale comics, but not any specifics, so I might be misremembering or I made an assumption based on how old Deke is in the framing story of the finale.

The microbe stuff is not only ridiculous but contradicted by canon (The Locket) so I don't think anyone should take that seriously.

Doesn't John live way longer than a normal human in that episode though? (Not as long as Aeryn obviously, but still very long.)

Not really. He was around 35 years when he started and lived 55 years on that planet. He's doing well for 90 but he still seemed very old. There's no way he could (or would want) to live another 200 years at that physical age or older. (Aeryn was almost 300 years old).

Okay, it's been a while since I've seen the episode and I remembered Aeryn being down there for like 150 years so I thought John was there that long as well. I guess I need to start a re-watch!

You do! :)

I like to call The Locket the episode that makes me do math.

Aeryn was there for three rotations of the window, 165 years, and then one more with John. Interestingly, he says at one point that she is 200 cycles older than him which is the only time it's implied that Aeryn was actually about twice John's age, or 70ish, when they meet.

I don't know that any other writers agreed with that, or if it was just a throwaway line because it was easier to say than "a hundred and sixty five". But it does make sense that if Sebaceans live so long, that Aeryn who looks a little younger (and is played by an actress almost ten years younger) would actually be older than Crichton.

They're the peacekeepers. You know keepers of peace.
