I think I would have liked it more if they want so clunky in their execution of her getting slimed. They made it so ham-fisted it looked like an episode of a Nickelodeon show.

So?

EDIT: What I mean to say is, did anyone here find the tone and the humour of this episode to be significantly off-putting? Personally, I like the high energy and the good spirits that Gatwa and Gibson brought to start the season off with a bang, but I do see how it could get annoying to a degree if all episodes were like that... which, again, is not to say that there haven't been any somber moments, either. The Doctor talking about the Gallifreyan genocide was very much needed for emotional reasons, more than for expositional ones.

I agree - I had commented elsewhere that the fun tone would be great for a few episodes, but since they tried to do it back to back it's a little concerning.

For me, Space Babies is on the level of Kill the Moon - dumb idea with some cringeworthy moments, but also had a couple of fantastic scenes that elevated it above the drudgery of a Chibnall era episode (I still can't think of a single memorable scene from that entire era)

But Kill the Moon's season also gave us Time Heist, Flatline, Listen Mummy...They only have eight episodes - if he's looking for a new tone for the show that's not a lot of time to explore and figure it out. Three episodes into Gatwa and for me it's been one great episode, one pretty good episode, and one pretty awful one.

Well, for what it's worth, the first two episodes did come out at the same time, so that makes them a package deal of sorts, and considering their tone(s), it might be better that way. Also, judging from the trailer, E03 seems to already be throwing a curveball in the mood department, so I wouldn't lose any sleep worrying about what's coming... especially since I can't change it. 😆

As for the new season length, I guess it might affect the story arc dynamics by making each episode more grandiose and bombastic on average, but I don't mind having that sort of a frantic energy to kick the new DW era off. We'll have to wait and see how it evolves down the line, though.

I'm cautiously optimistic but definitely optimistic. Just these three episodes (including Christmas) had more standout moments than the entire 4 years of chibnall.
