General General Housekeeping

Hey hey hey, I think I am the only active mod here right now! Luckily it’s a pretty slow community so I think I’ll be all right lol. Somehow our settings restricted who could post which sort of defeats the purpose of this sub so I have fixed that! I have also added a description, avatar, some user flair and some post flair to update things a bit. Have a great day and welcome to CofC! Enjoy your first week of classes everyone!

apartment freshman year

I’m an incoming freshman at CofC and am planning on getting an apartment less than a mile from campus due to health reasons. Do you think this will impair my ability to make friends and be apart of things on campus?

CofC Varsity/Letterman Jackets?

Does anyone know where I can purchase a CofC varsity/letterman jacket? I looked through CofC's B&N website and NCAA and can't find them. If they don't make any, does anyone have any guidance on who we can submit feedback to for CofC merch suggestions?

cant study major till sophomore year?

I am an admitted student that is heavily considering attending CofC this fall. I am dead set on what I want to study, and I was under the impression that I would begin studying it as soon as I got there. i was just made aware that this is not the case and you don't begin studying your specific major until second semester sophomore year? Is this true, and if so, is there any way around it? And also, is this a normal thing for a lot of schools? I'd love to get some feedback. Thanks

btw the major is 'Historic Preservation & Community Planning', not sure if that changes things

“The College” tees

I don’t understand why I can’t find (online) a tee that just has “The College” in that script on it, in maroon and gold!

I swear I used to see them in stores on King, like, more than a decade ago.

With the bball team sporting that on their jerseys, it seems like it would be easy money to sell those. (Year-round, frankly)

There ARE some “official” ones available in gray online, but they’re sport-specific and pretty lame looking. Closest thing I’ve seen to what I’m describing is one of those “design yourself” T-shirt vendors.

Seriously, TAKE MY MONEY. Maroon shirt, gold lettering, maybe with a white stroke. How hard is this?

COFC CIS program?

I am a prospective student of the CIS(Computer information systems) program and I'm wondering how good it is compared to the USC CIS program. It is a very difficult choice and I'm not sure which one would be most beneficial.

Sublet a room for summer?

My son is a rising senior at Clemson, and has a job in Charleston this summer. Does anyone have a room they can sublet to him for late May thru early August? He needs a bed, a kitchen, a parking spot and strong Wifi. He will bring his own sheets, pillows and towels.

My son is sober, religious and respectful.

icharleston program

I got waitlisted last Thursday and it was suggested to me to do the icharleston program which is study abroad the first semester in either Rome, Dublin, or London. I would want to do it in the Rome location cause I plan to major in studio art/ art history. My question to you guys is how is this program? Pros/ cons? How is it for someone that has a weak immune system and can get sick a lot? Like is there medical center on campus? The Rome ones at the American University of Rome. I was told it might stunt me socially but I’ve made a couple friends down at the school already and have a roommate in place who’s a close friend of mine for the second semester when I would return. And final question, is it like an iterneary schedule or on weekends can you travel with friends and such?(like I would want go see more of Italy or other Euro countries) I would appreciate any feedback cause getting waitlisted was tough on me but I feel like this would be a cool idea, and I want to live in Europe when I’m older. Btw I’m a girl if anyone has any sort of safety advice.

Why was I rejected?

I have a 4.2 weighted gpa tons of ecs and about 3 aps and 3 dual enrollment courses. I wasn’t even put on a waitlist, I was just flat out rejected. Is their acceptance rate lower or something this year? I’m just surprised because my stats fit the high end of their accepted student range and I assumed it was a safety.

Best bars/nightlife

I’m going to transfer to CofC, and I was wondering what the party scene is like. What are the most popular bars/clubs people go to? Are there specific bars that people go to on certain days? What are the vibes at the bars near campus? Is it easy to meet people by going out?

Transfer looking to find roomates

Hey, I'm an incoming sophomore transfer and I'm looking to find somewhere where I can find roommates. Is there an insta page or something, also, if I can, should I apply for student housing, or is it better to just go the apartment route. I'm looking to get an on campus experience, but I've heard it's impossible for transfers to get student housing. Thanks!
