Good games for socializing and making new friends on Xbox! Discussion

Hey folks!

I'm on the hunt for some engaging multiplayer games on Xbox that are great for socializing. My group of friends don't really play video games anymore due to IRL schedules, and for a very long time Destiny was my old faithful for meeting new people, but it seems a bit quieter these days especially after the latest expansion. So I am more or less looking for a game with rich multiplayer experience with a large player base, essentially making the process of finding new folks to play with easy at any time. Thus far, I can say that GTA online is a classic that's still going strong, but I guess I prefer something fresh along those lines, games where you can engage in a variety of activities with others. Btw, for those who are in the same ship, Fallout 76 could be a blast.

Let me know if you've tried any of these or if there are other gems out there that I'm missing out on! I'm keen to hear your experiences with these titles or any hidden treasures you might recommend.

Fallout 76. It was a joke at launch, but it's pretty damn good now. Lots to do. Tons of new players cause of the TV show, with most friendly and generous community in online gaming. Us high levels mostly enjoy helping the noobs by donating gear/consumables/outfits. Give it a shot, it's on gamepass.

2nd this. I jumped back in and had a great time. End game content is lacking and repetitive but a good time all around.

I am wondering as well. Making friends online feels harder than IRL.

The game I play the most online on Xbox is PUBG. It isn't very friendly to newcomers. On randoms, most people don't even use a mic. On ranked and LFG, people are toxic.

For real! Used to be the opposite for me but back then everyone had open mics lol

im a pubg guy, but the only way to make friends is searching for a group and hitting it off

Not happening anymore. Due to the introduction of party chat, voice chat being disabled by default in most games, and consoles no longer coming with headsets.

There was a game for Xbox 360 called Chrome Hounds in which you would secure radio towers on the map in order to communicate longer distances with your teammates in the game chat. I remember after Party Chat came out, it completely ruined that part of the experience because everyone just cheated and used Party Chat.

At least back in the 360 days, they implemented a feature where the game would force you into game chat. I remember COD Search and Destroy game modes were always like that. I think you could prevent it by going into a private chat, which would let you speak 1on1 at any time.

It died down on Xbox One, though. Either devs gave up by that point, or Xbox didn't make it a feature. It doesn't help that by the time the One came out, Skype was in the Xbox Store, so most people would use that instead of Party Chat, which would probably circumvent the forced chat.

Given all of this, I do like it when games add text chats because at least we can communicate through that regardless of voice channels.

Still blown away that xbox hasn’t introduced a built in mic for the controllers

XDefiant is Free to Play and comes out this week. It's basically old CoD and it has lobbies that don't disband- I bet you can meet people there like you could back in the day.

MCC custom games are great fun for a good mess about

FF14 Online definitely is one of the more "social" games

Final Fantasy XIV.

Deep rock galactic

ESO and Warframe! You can join a guild/clan and communicate and tons of nice people in those games.

u/ZemlyaNovaya May 20 '24

I’ve been dying to go back to ESO but I have over 2K hours of progression on PC and sadly there is no character transfer between platforms 😔

I've made a couple of friends playing Sea of Thieves, but I'd recommend using Looking for Group in Xbox, not just joining random lobbies inside the game

Hell Let Loose, game pretty much requires communication. Matches can go on for a hour and if you have a good squad running, you'll want to stick with them

Darktide

Deep rock galactic or rdr2

1

u/ZemlyaNovaya May 19 '24

How is red dead online nowadays? Been away from that game too long

2

u/8hook0ne8 May 19 '24

Nothing meaningful has been updated or added to the game but I still enjoy it. Depends what your looking for tbh

If you play Red Dead Online then add me. We can level up and make a posse together.

Red dead or GTA

You can make friends with people online?! I've only ever been met with sweats and/or trolls who use mics. In other games you have a good teammate, but they dip as soon as the match is over. Nobody wants to stick around.

Going back in time lol. Halo 2 was peak

1

u/LukeTisk May 20 '24

Elder scrolls online!

Final fantasy xiv, warframe, division 2, remnant 2 (surprisingly ive had more people messege me on remant 2 than usual. Maybe due to the co-op pizzle/find the thing nature).

2

u/ZemlyaNovaya May 20 '24

How is division 2? Always wanted to give that game a shot but never had the opportunity

1

u/Any-Newspaper1922 May 20 '24

I find it fun. Ive played since it came out. I get into a rythm whyle playing so its a game i can put on when im feeling anxious or whatever and itll focus me. I like making different builds and trying stuff out. Trying to come up with builds for different types of content. They have added a lot of stuff over the years so theres plenty to do. At the start, like most rpgs, itll be kinda slow until you get more gear and start making crazy builds. But later on you can do a lot of different things. Like healing, suport, crowd control, tanking, dps while sniping/rushing/skill damage etc.

I would say Among Us or Deep Rock Galactic. But honestly, as long as you use the Looking For Group feature, you can find a good group of people for whatever game you looking to play.

1

u/Countdown3 May 23 '24

Sea of Thieves and use looking for group. I've met people I've been friends with for years.

Destiny 2’s final expansion comes out June 4th, which is guaranteed to bring many players back to the game. Although I’ve found a lot of destiny players to be sweaty and hostile. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea but Elder Scrolls Online, I’ve met tons of incredibly nice people through joining guilds.

I met a few good people on World of Warships, strategic-minded, intelligent and friendly.

u/ALifeBuggin 17d ago

No man’s Sky for sure has just about the most open and friendly community

1

u/PM_UR_PROBLEMS_GIRL May 19 '24

Destiny 2. You can learn from people how to run dungeons and raids and become friends. People like to teach and clans can be good to meet people too

1

u/RogerFederer4 May 19 '24

Rainbow 6 siege ranked

2

u/BloodShadow7872 May 19 '24

Doesn't rainbow six have one of the most toxic communities though?

It's interesting to me that people have to be around other people. I use games to get away from society so I couldn't imagine wanting to be around people during my down time.

Alright, professor didn'task

No one asked if you asked, slick. You're just not that important.

You clearly have never owned a hose

That makes no sense, but cool.
