This generation has been underwhelming Discussion

I bought a Series X at launch, and can’t think of a single game that has impressed me this gen. I’m a big Halo fan, and Halo Infinite felt like a letdown. I’m a Forza fan, and Forza Motorsport felt like a massive disappointment. I was exited for Starfield, but was underwhelmed after playing it.

It just feels like we’ve had no heavy hitters this gen, even 3rd party AAA games have been average at best. I guess the only hope I have left is with Gears 6, but aside from that, Microsoft needs to get their act together and start releasing some new games. It feels like games are taking way too long to make these days, we used to get bangers every year in the 360 gen. Even the Xbox One had more compelling games than what we have now

Frame rate was never a massive issue because the games were so good. And it was normal back then to get stutters.

Performance specs weren't much of a talking point back then either. People were happy just to get the slow advancement of Xbox Live at all. We didn't have HDTVs all of the place to worry about 1080p vs. 4K. High refresh rate monitors weren't the standard in PC gaming, with tech trickling to consumer TVs, for console gamers to really experience and care about it.

The Nintendo Switch is kind of like being back in that era. The hardware is so limited that you don't really worry about the specs of game performance, unless they're REALLY bad. Nintendo's prioritization of first-party experience also helps there, because you can't go and say "I can play this better on tthe other console."

Performance specs were definitely a talking point back. A lot of games were poorly optimized and struggled to hit 30 FPS. I definitely agree the games were more fun back then.
