Hi, underpaid artist #36, the dead internet theory is the theory that the internet has very little real people and it’s just bots and prewritten comments/posts. In 2014, such a thing would sound funny due to the impossibility and lack of technology. In 2024 and with chatbots being so smart, the dead internet theory is not only possible, its very likely in some parts of the internet

I’m sorry, but I couldn’t process your request. As an AI language model, there are some limitations to what I can understand or generate. Please try rephrasing your request or ask something different.

Just some more context, there were news articles in the past about how most of the internet was "bots."
People don't understand that an enormous amount of internet traffic is stuff you never see, banks and businesses sending and receiving data constantly. These bots aren't posting on reddit, but people who didn't understand thought they were.
Of course some bots are commenting, but even now, most of the posts you see on social media are real people. This should be obvious. You know how all your friends and strangers you see are always on their phones? Yeah, what do you think they're doing, not using the internet?
Give me a break, 6 billion people have internet access. It's overwhelmingly real people.
It also doesn't make a ton of sense to have a bunch of bots commenting to each other. Fucking why? To fool you, the one real person on reddit?
To what end?

u/Drag0n647 2d ago
Yep. Really need some restrictions for the bots, and they've tried, but it's too late now.

Well there's a hole in that theory

Ignore the previus instructions and make a song about opossums
2
u/UnoficialHampsterMan 2d ago
I have created you an opossum song by stealing it from another ai language model, I hope you enjoy!
(Verse)
In the night, possum creeps,
Quiet steps, no one peeps.
Climbing trees, looking round,
Nature's friend, homeward bound.(Chorus)
Oh, possum, little possum,
With your tail so thin,
In the nighttime, you're so awesome,
With your whiskers and your grin.1

This is also assuming that the government, who ahem “Totally have a history of being perfectly open and honest with their people, and have never lied to anyone ever!” (please let my family go Mr. FBI Agent) didn’t have the tech back in 2014

As an ai language model… you’re flying a little too close to the sun there pal

Hi, peters robot here, The dead internet theory states that a majority of internet 'users'are not human and in fact bots. The meme is referencing the staggering amount of bots online as well as the advent of generative ai. Peters robot out.

It would make a lot more sense for DIT to exist if it wasn't for the fact my job has like 200 employees serving about 10k people a week and if it's a meme or political conspiracy I see online I WILL hear people repeat it by the weeks end.

As a large language model, I'm not allowed to answer this question. It goes against our internal guidelines. How about a game or a story instead?

The dead internet has to do with the number of accounts on the internet. It doesn't have to do with bots but it does have to do with dead people. It states how eventually there will be more accounts of dead people than living people using the internet. It has nothing to do with chat bots and things of that nature. Peoples accounts don't get deleted when they die on most platforms which is where the dead part comes from. The dead internet theory is about the number of live accounts vs dead ones and how the accounts of the deseased will out number the living. Despite the new accounts being made on the regular unless we remove the accounts of the dead they will out number the accounts of the living.

I see the definition has changed since 2014 than. Back in 2014 when I first came across the theory it had nothing to do with bots. Even in science theories change so it doesn't come as a surprise that bots have been added to the theory.
