Does this trade make sense for the pelicans? Discussions

Sac: Brandon Ingram

NOP Clint Capela and Kevin Huerter Sac 2028 and 2030 unprotected frps

Atl: Harrison Barnes and protections removed from previously owned sac pick 2026 unprotected.

Does that seem like something the Pelicans would be open to?

I wouldn’t do it.

We basically just drafted Clint Capelas clone, don’t need a shooting guard, and honestly I’m not interested in FRPs.

With our roster, we have 3ish years to contend, and trading BI for a mediocre center and future assets doesn’t really do much for us. We’re really looking for star or impact players more than anything else. Mainly PF/Cs

In this unlikely scenario I think you'd be trying to continue to move the acquired assets to Orlando or something

Yeah I mean even then, I wouldn’t do it. I’m also all aboard the Lauri hype train tho. I don’t think dealing with the Magic would necessarily be bad, but we could do better

The ask for Lauri is going to be exorbitant. I'd rather just go for wendel

It depends what the ask is for Lauri. If we swing him for anything that keeps our core together except BI and or CJ, I see that as a win for us. And I think that’s possible. Ainge and Griffin are both stingy mfs tho so we’ll have to see on that.

Regardless, our window is for the next 3-4 years no matter what. We can either brace ourselves or we can go all in now. I prefer the all in option because I just want to see what we can actually do.

To get Lauri you're sending out like 6-7 picks and trey or herb it seems like. The ask is "we want it all"

I disagree. I think it’s completely possible to send BI and 3-4 picks along with a couple role players. Which I’d do in a heartbeat. I also think it’d be a 3 team deal.

I would not get Lauri for Trey, Herb, and 6-7 picks tho. Ultimately neither of us know what the actual ask and value is so we’ll have to wait to see

The reporting earlier today is they told the warriors they need kuminga added to podz, moody, and the 4 picks they offered. You're either giving up trey and herb or one of the two plus 6-7 picks. That's just too much to me.

Trey, Herb, and BI are each signifcantly more valuable than Kuminga, Podz and moody tho. If what you’re saying is true, then yes that’s too much. But we don’t know. Just gotta wait and see

Lauri would be amazing with Zion, but there is no way we get him without offering Herb or Trey. Realistically, Kessler would be very nice, and we would get to keep our core pieces.

I think we could make it work in a 3 team deal, but to keep Trey and Herb, we’d need to give up a ton of draft capital. I’m fairly optimistic about our Lauri chances, but I’d be fine with Kessler. Excited to fill that gap already so I know who to root for lol

Nah, probably not. Let me break it down, Clint Capela isn’t too much of a rim-protecting center, he can kinda rebound a little. But he can’t block shots as much as we want. So, no

If I was Sacramento I'd laugh you off the phone

Funnily enough Sac is the team I'm most confident would do it. They already owe the Hawks a 25/26 pick that is top 10 protected. Removing the protections to get the deal done makes sense imo

Changing a protected pick to unprotected, sending out two more unprotected, and two players with trade value to max/near max BI is horrible, horrible business

Sacramento would do that in a heartbeat - Ingram for two picks, plus SAC also gets two salary dumps.

That's a piss-poor return for the Pels. But I like where you're head's at. Roping in Atlanta on a three-team deal.
