Ehh, I feel like it was a tradeoff. Amber in the comics was barely ever present, and the little screentime she had was just scenes of Mark leaving her stranded. She also found out Mark was Invincible way later than she did in the show.
Because of those differences, I found it easier to relate to Amber. The show gave her more characterization, sure, but it sorta backfired in that people ended up hating her. Comics didn't have that issue because of the sort of blank personality that she had. There was no reason to hate her, since her character was just "Mark's normal gf". And as Mark's normal gf, we (or at least I) can't help but feel for her due to how bad a bf Mark was.
i mean i dont think the solution to men getting mad at a female character is taking away any controversial elements/unlikable flaws. she spells out all her feelings in the show and its not hard to understand her.
