Ya its an inner conflict plot like Luke fearing the dark side because of how his dad turned out except on top its every other version of himself too. Agreed its a formulaic plot device.

I get the internal conflict, but it’s bizzare to me that there’s such a pervasive disinclination among other characters to talk about this. I get Cecil is cynical and has to ingratiate himself to mark an Debbie to enlist mark, but why have none of the guardians, any other superhero groups, any other governments seriously reckoned with the fact that the one mechanism for resisting universal subjugation is inadequate and not getting better because he’s traumatized.

He is getting better. There’s a whole scene in the final episode of S2 of Mark forcing himself to fly as fast as possible while saying “I need to get better. I need to get stronger” to himself while doing so. Bros actively sweating in that scene
