Immortal was down bad for his 1000 year age gap gf damn.

Hearing his eulogy in addition to Kate's explanation from before made me feel a lot less weird about them.

Yeah - she's one of the only people who has basically any experiences in common with him - they've both died many times and lived on.

People have to accept that at a certain point age gap is irrelevant.

Obviously I am not talking about underage. I am talking about, is a 25 year old dating a 50 year old any stranger than a 25 year old dating a 1000 year old? What is the difference exactly?

Everyone involved is a fully developed and consenting adult, who cares.

I genuinely never understood this gripe people had around this.

Mainly because they were on "Teen Team" recently and its easy to forget they're not high school age anymore because they are drawings and haven't physically changed.

Also, I don't think Kate's even 25 yet so there's an arguement to be made about the "fully developed" part.

I mean, at what point can you really care anymore? Not like he can have any comparable options.

Yeah it's like, should he just stop dating period? Dude's immortal, but also an immortal human. Humans are social creatures, we need romantic partners, friends, family, etc. I think the age gap is weird, but I can't fault Abraham for still having the capacity to love. I think it'd still feel weird though even if Kate was 30, but the way Kate framed their relationship helped me understand where the appeal is coming from

I mean i feel like yall are kinda intentionally missing the point. Just cause he's super old doesn't mean it isn't weird he's dating a girl who was part of the teen team like a year ago. Nobody is telling him to stick to 90 year old retirees. Just you know maybe women who are old enough to have graduated college at the very least lol.

She is a bit older mentally than that given she has the memories of her duplicates. Probably at least mentally in her mid-20s.

given she has the memories of her duplicates

I wonder if she could spawn duplicates to go learn things, practice skills etc?

They def learned how to suck dick cause I'm pretty sure that's all she did with immortal

u/evasive_dendrite Mar 24 '24

It makes sense for him. If he starts dating a 50 year old, she'll be dead in no time for him. This way he at least has some time with them relative to his lifespan.

Like the Thraxans, Immortal seems to experience the passage of time at one second per second.

u/coldblade2000 Apr 07 '24

Yeah, but think how human children and old people both also technically experience time at the same rate, yet they feel the passage of time very differently. A 6 year old having to wait a year is eternal, for an 80 year old it's barely noticeable

Uh…. No? 10 year olds aren’t adults.

12

u/LMkingly Mar 21 '24

The point i'm trying to make by being extremely hyperbolic is immortal being old af doesn't matter when discussing the mental maturity of his partner. It's not all the same. A 19 year old is still barely an adult. Whether Immortal is 50 or 5000 or 5 million years old it will always be weird asf for him to be dating someone who has barely stepped into adulthood. While a 30 year old woman is "young" for him too it is far less egregious because this woman at least is a grown ass adult with her own lived experiences that while maybe can't compare to Immortal still makes her a lot more developed as a person than someone who barely has stepped out of their teenage years.

1

u/Iorith Mar 21 '24

I have to ask because this comes up a lot. If they're barely an adult, should they be allowed to vote? Smoke/Drink/Drive?

And if we did push it back to 21, I still feel like eventually we'd use the same argument for the same reason to push it back to 25, since until you're 25 your brain is still developing.

Not to even get into the fact there are plenty of 19 year olds who have more real life experience than college graduates. Life experience CANNOT be gauged in years, it's through, you know, experience.

In this specific circumstance, they are both characters who know what is like to die multiple times, the trauma involved, and putting their lives on the line for people who don't know what that is like.

u/Iorith Mar 21 '24

We have a legal concept of adulthood, and are you really comparing a 20 year old to a 10 year old?

0

u/Lucifer_Crowe Mar 26 '24

I mean honestly yeah?

Ultimately bro should just be dead

He's kinda a ticking time bomb

102

u/Corazon144 Mar 21 '24

Well it not the living that made them relate to each other. It’s the dying. If Kate really did experience every death her clones experienced, she truly was the only one who could understand Immortal.

3

u/Lucifer_Crowe Mar 26 '24

That was definitely a better comparison than "hmmm add together my clones and we're basically the same age."

Someone who can understand like that I absolutely get to some level. Still weird though.

I just kinda don't care for him as a person or character. If he just died again there'd be no real loss.

u/cippopotomas Mar 21 '24

It's not often you get a monogamous relationship and still get to have shower orgies. Kate was waifu material

u/JustInChina88 The Immortal Mar 21 '24

He is a lot older than a thousand years old I think. His age dwarfs viltrumites, even.

2

u/MrVectuvus Mar 22 '24

It doesn't. He's between 2000 to 5000. Viltrumites are said to live thousands of years, which could range from like 2000 to 5000 or 10,000 to 100,000. Who knows

1

u/NaoSouONight Mar 23 '24

He has a limited amount of memory. As in, even if he lived for 5000 years, he does not have 5000 worth of memory.
