Some things I want to say:

Glad they changed the whole marriage thing in the comics

Invincible vs dark wing 2 was awesome

Good lord,I feel so sorry for debbie,so many of her scenes in this episode were hard to watch.

I honestly don’t know how to feel about amber in this season

She’s a little more likeable so far,but after the shit she pulled last season,I am conflicted

The scene with immortal and dupli Kate was hilarious

Glad they’re acknowledging the fact that Donald is back in this episode

I mean I knew he was gonna come back since I read the comics, but his return in the first episode definitely left a lot of people confused

Lmao female Cecil and Donald

Love the post credit scene that teases one of my favorite events in the comic

Excited for next episode!

Besides the one terrible scene at the college with Amber(and its fallout), I kind of miss season 1 Amber. She had spunk and a big personality that was interesting. I feel like the writers saw the backlash, and instead of moving past it, they just reduced her to Invincible's girlfriend.

I hope she gets her personality back.

I honestly don't mind...I'm just waiting for Mark & Eve to be together, I love them together so much. They're my favorite fictional couple.

I’m really excited for that part, too! But to be fair, the writers didn’t have a lot to work with off of Amber in the books. They could’ve tried WAY harder than this, though.

The last like third of the comic series is some of my favorite relationship in fictional history. Her being there for him when he finally brings up being raped, their coming to terms with him being gone for 5 years or whatever it was. Them getting through things felt so real.

Her “spunk” is why people hated her, she was condescending and pretentious and actually abusive in their relationship, honestly endgame aside Mark staying with her at this point is just abusive relationships 101

If they wanna do something with Amber still it should be seperate from Mark

To me, I think the Mark/Amber subplot was so flawed that even if Amber got her spunk back, it wouldn’t fully save it for me. Their relationship feels so uninteresting to me.

2

u/Grimmrat Nov 10 '23

I don’t. Her just being a nice girlfriend is infinitely better then season 1 “spunk”

Glad they basically retconned her entire personality, nothing of value was lost

At this point they should had just write a new character and start over with the love interest.

It's obvious how they are trying "redeem her(?)" by stepping her down in hope we forget the writing derailment at the cost of losing her personality, they should just own the L.

I'm so interested in what they even do with Amber going forward. Like there's no way in HELL they do the abuse subplot.

Didn't she meet a guy in season 1 that had the same name as the abuser guy?

u/KBSinclair Doc Seismic Nov 10 '23

They easily could.

7

u/Aen-Seidhe Nov 10 '23

No way. This Amber would never put up with that.

u/Immaeatchorizo Nov 10 '23

everyobody can be victim of abuse it has nothing to do with the victim personality

You never know what you can endure until it happens to you. You can imagine, you can even train, but the only way to know how someone will react to something is if they go through it. And you don't seem to know much about abusive relationship dynamics if you think her character makes her immune to falling victim through it. Especially when abusers are insidious manipulators that break down people's spirit to make their victim dependent and excuse their behavior.

2

u/Aen-Seidhe Nov 10 '23

Maybe, but I just don't buy this Amber staying with someone who hits her under any circumstances. I admit she could get with someone who hits her once, but I don't think she'd stay.

Again, you need to read more on abusive relationships. People are manipulated into excusing their partner's behavior for any number of reasons, regardless of what type of person they tend to be with other people.

1

u/Feniks_Gaming Nov 11 '23

People are never hit as first thing abusers do. Their sense of self esteem is destroyed slowly over time to the point where they can be hit and accept it. Some of the victims of abuse were the strongest people their families knew before abuse

7

u/CoolJoshido Nov 10 '23

everyone can be a victim of abuse. Even Mark….

1

u/Cloudhwk Nov 11 '23

Mark was physically overpowered by someone significantly more powerful than him at the time

I don't know, It's kind of cringe

3

u/Orc_tids Nov 10 '23

I think wrt Amber, some even crazier shit happened to Mark immediately after they broke up so I guess they were both just like "yeah fuck it lets start over".

Sometimes worse shit just happens and makes other problems seem smaller in comparison.

Also why the hell would they waste the in all other ways better-written version of Amber? Comics Amber was just "girlfriend" and that's it! Hell it even makes the Eve romance stuff more compelling!

u/CoolJoshido Nov 10 '23

THE MARRIAGE THING WAS PEAK HUMOR

2

u/Drew-Pickles Nov 11 '23

I thought I was going mad. I knew Donald came back, and was having a conversation with someone who hadn't read the comic, and double checked his wiki page to refresh my memory and it said absolutely nothing about him returning... I thought I was going through some major Mandela Effect or something..m

Amber was pretty reasonable the entire first season, right up until she reveals she had known Mark was Invincible for weeks. She acts like it was completely unreasonable for him to try to keep a secret identity, and it also makes the whole fight after the Re-animan attack complete bullshit and manipulation on her part. It still doesn't excuse Mark's behavior as a boyfriend to her, and it doesn't mean lying to her for several months of their relationship was ok, but it is definitely shitty on her part too.

Amber mellowing out after a) Mark stops lying to her and starts including her in his superhero life and b) Mark becomes traumatized after his fight with Nolan does make sense. It does start setting up the concept of their relationship getting strained by Mark being a superhero, which I think is nice. Now that their relationship is more honest and less combative, there is an opportunity to actually explore it as a relationship between someone who didn't sign up to date a superhero, and a superhero who will never be able to put being a good boyfriend over saving lives.

My favorite scenes in this episode were Debbie, Eve, and Mark's scenes.

I don't hate Amber but I'm sorry but she's just kind of the least engaging part of the main show.

They went backwards on Amber and I hate it. She was well within her rights to be frustrated at Mark for making promises and not keeping them, now they turned her into someone who confidently claims Mark won't miss stuff cause he promised, and is ok with having dates cut short cause he has to go on duty. Maybe it's cause she feels sorry for him after the Omni-Man problem, but as of now I would've rather they made them friends rather than go back to a relationship.

1

u/zumabbar Nov 10 '23

i thought the same thing. i dont mind tbh, but my problem's they didn't talk about the pity thing clearly so far. maybe for future episodes? before the possible break up?

6

u/KBSinclair Doc Seismic Nov 10 '23

Maybe. I mean, it's not like she has someone to talk to about it. And I think Mark is just happy to have something from before everything fell apart around him. It's something one can infer, but honestly I have no idea if that's the route they go. It's just something I feel is going on. It might be a part of why they break up, that they don't really love each other and Amber just got back with him because she felt bad post Omni-Man and Mark wanted something to cling to. Cause I'm pretty sure if he didn't have her, he would've thrown himself way more into going through the motions of Superheroing. She's the one thing barely holding him from just throwing everything he is into answering the call and waiting anxiously for it.
