5 | Houston Christian | 2 | 8 | 626 | 762 | Eliminated |
6 | Abilene Christian | 2 | 8 | 670 | 747 | Eliminated |
Recap - Everything paired off in 2s in this group. Texas Tech and Texas A&M were way above everyone else. Tech swept A&M, which launched them into the first spot from the Lonestar. The bottom 4 at one point was fairly close together and then split off as you can see above. Tarleton State and Texas State faced off in the group main event to determine who would take spot 3 and head into the next round, which was won by Tarleton.
Group B
Pos | Team | W | L | Points Scored | Points Against | Tourney Status |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Baylor | 9 | 1 | 835 | 675 | Qualified |
2 | Stephen F Austin | 7 | 3 | 803 | 676 | Advanced |
3 | North Texas | 5 | 5 | 767 | 686 | Advanced |
4 | Lamar | 4 | 6 | 642 | 768 | Eliminated |
5 | Rice | 4 | 6 | 693 | 714 | Eliminated |
6 | Prairie View A&M | 1 | 9 | 583 | 804 | Eliminated |
Recap - Let's face it. This one was always more interesting as to who would be 2nd and 3rd over 1st. Baylor Did very well, only slipping up to Rice randomly. They will be going to the WC. But let's pause there and talk about Rice. They started off with a 2-1 record, defeating SFA and North Texas while only losing to Baylor by 1 in between. With a very good showing against the top contenders of the group, the seemed primed to advance. But then they lost a 1 point game to PVAM. Then dropped 2 straight to Lamar. They ended up going 2-1 until the final week with a win and in game against UNT, but North Texas ended up pulling that one off to move on to the next round. Man, what could have been. In other news, North Texas managed to hang onto a lose 2 win 2 pattern until they broke it in week 10. PVAM also turned in one of the worst performances I've seen so far, never scoring above 70 points and only cracking 60 in half of their games. Gross.
Group C

---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | SMU | 9 | 1 | 874 | 664 | Qualified |
2 | Texas | 8 | 2 | 792 | 664 | Advanced |
3 | Texas A&M Commerce | 5 | 5 | 717 | 766 | Advanced |
4 | UTSA | 3 | 7 | 711 | 735 | Eliminated |
5 | UT Arlington | 3 | 7 | 712 | 795 | Eliminated |
6 | Texas A&M Corpus Christi | 2 | 8 | 647 | 829 | Eliminated |
Recap - Kinda a snoozer here. SMU started off the group by randomly losing to UTSA and then not losing again, sweeping Texas and locking their WC bid in. Texas lost to nobody other than SMU and will be one of the favorites in the next round. Everything else was kinda a coinflip every game out there. Texas A&M Commerce, the final team above the play in round, somehow goes 5-5 and will participate in the next round.

---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Sam Houston State | 9 | 1 | 793 | 687 | Qualified |
2 | TCU | 8 | 2 | 806 | 704 | Advanced |
3 | Houston | 7 | 3 | 778 | 692 | Advanced |
4 | Texas Southern | 3 | 7 | 676 | 732 | Eliminated |
5 | UTEP | 3 | 7 | 705 | 750 | Eliminated |
6 | UTRGV | 0 | 10 | 624 | 817 | Eliminated |
Recap - Man what the actual fuck. I guess I'll start with the group winner Sam Houston State. They swept Houston. You read that right. I don't know either, I'm just pressing submit button. They also split with TCU, which makes a little more sense but is still pretty out there. Well, welcome to the show Sam Houston. This is going to get pretty wild now I think. Not much else to say here other than Houston overall didn't perform very well at all. 7-3 is solid but they had some head scratchers. Outside of Sam Houston sweeping them they had only a 1 point win over UTRGV to start the group and only beat Texas Southern by 6 and 10 points. They'll get another shot at it in the next round but man, wild.
Round 2:
Pos | Team | W | L | Points Scored | Points Against | Tourney Status |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Houston | 7 | 0 | 545 | 450 | Advanced |
2 | TCU | 5 | 2 | 542 | 492 | Eliminated |
3 | Texas | 5 | 2 | 510 | 410 | Eliminated |
4 | Texas A&M | 4 | 3 | 540 | 473 | Eliminated |
5 | North Texas | 3 | 4 | 472 | 548 | Eliminated |
6 | Tarleton State | 2 | 5 | 478 | 487 | Eliminated |
7 | Stephen F Austin | 2 | 5 | 472 | 531 | Eliminated |
8 | Texas A&M Commerce | 0 | 7 | 389 | 557 | Eliminated |
Recap - Ok Houston, that makes more sense. Total table run there. Group was far more interesting than I expected after the Sam Houston shocker. A total war for survival here, a few pretty good teams will be sitting this one out.
Alright, today we saw Texas Tech, Baylor, SMU, and Sam Houston State all punch tickets to the WC while Houston shall await the next step of the interconference playoff games. I'll see you all soon for what will likely be either one of the bigger conferences left.
