This is actually closer to view botting. This is a bunch of phones watching the same video/scrolling through the same article to generate views, watch ads, etc to improve the media's visibility. Picture shows that many are open on the same app, but watching the video you can see all they do is scroll. the screens shown in blue circles will transition to the current red circle screen

Usually response botting is done with a computer (this might have changed in recent years)

This is your average K-pop fan mass streaming music videos so they can inflate view counts and live vicariously through someone else’s success

I remember I calling a BTS song funky and getting attacked for weeks because they thought I was saying the song stunk

u/zipcodelove 2d ago

Oh they’re the most unhinged out of all of them, you should see what they do to music journalists who dare to give them anything but a 5/5 rating

My BM is/was a K-pop Stan. I wish I had known before the condom broke

As a former kpop fan while fans do inflate views this isn't how they go about it. Usually fans just organize themselves, like in discord servers and stuff like that. They will make a chart with when and how to hit those streaming goals. Usually websites like YouTube can recognize bot behavior and will pause views while they check authenticity, so fans will stream a song, then watch other videos and songs in between, and then go back to the first song so the view is genuine. Looping the video over and over won't count the view as genuine so what they're doing isn't actually against YouTube's rules because they play the other videos to completion.

Oh yeah I know, I’m one myself. Just a little joke

u/SmallDickModiNoBalls 2d ago

There is no metric that can't be gamed.

2

u/sillyadam94 2d ago

Oh, I’m quite familiar with this… Silicon Valley did a whole three episode arc about it.

What's really happening here

153

u/dpwtr 2d ago

Clickfarms for fake views, streams, followers and so on. They mimic the behaviour of real people browsing (swiping, clicking, watching etc) so the platform doesn't label them as bots. They are unlikely to be troll farms. Those are much bigger operations and require less automated fake browsing because they already act like real people.

13

u/sendinthe9s 2d ago

Oh OK damn this good info.

1

u/dallasvfx3d 1d ago

why do you know so much about this

3

u/dpwtr 1d ago

I've worked with social media since before fake likes were a thing. I thought this stuff was common knowledge nowadays.

Like I noticed this especially on tiktok where people will pretend to be other Ethniticies just to be racist which in turns creates conflict between different ethnicities. Just look Arabs vs X or Nigerians vs X. You'll find every ethnicity dragging each other. You just know it's a neonazi larping to stoke violence

I think they are trying to start a racewar and from the reactions they get, it's working.

Be cautious of what you see

18

u/dutchhhhhh6 2d ago

I think you're underestimating how racist humans of all ethnicities can be

23

u/Tasty-Sky7040 2d ago

Ofc but the two can be true at the same time

17

u/Expensive_Bee508 2d ago

Nah I think those are real people, I'm Mexican but I'm pretty sure it's the same for whatever immigrants, if you're born here or was brought as a little kid you will in part take in the US culture, and I mean come on we talk about systemic racism or at the very least how prevalent it is in the culture, is it really a surprise that they pick it up as well.

Also not to mention that ppl have been lying forever just to say shit, like the yasuke incident recently.

u/cosmodogbro ☑️ 2d ago

It's really terrible on twitter, the amount of whites pretending to be Asian to stoke hatred between Asians and black people.

3

u/DaBeegDeek 2d ago

Naw Asians hate black people.

11

u/cosmodogbro ☑️ 2d ago

Well there's a racism issue, yeah. But it's pretty easy to tell when some white guy is pretending to be asian on twitter lol, they all have the same obvious shitty weeb/right wing profile format. White supremacists love using vitriol between minorities to their advantage, like hyping up asians and encouraging them to demonize black people. There's a disdain for black people already there, but I believe it's largely due to ignorance. Once white people and their racist lies, manipulation and "high IQ model minority" crap infect their minds though, that's when shit goes south.

u/Silberc ☑️ 2d ago

You did it there too though. You said it's a neo Nazi larping when it could easily be a Chinese guy paid from a guy who gets paid from a guy who gets paid from the Chinese government to make the social shit over here worse.

5

u/Tasty-Sky7040 2d ago

Neonazis to me can be any race

5

u/VuckoPartizan 2d ago

Nazis are inherently rooted in Nordic occultism, so the typical blonde hair blue eyed.

Fascists can be anything; i.e. Italians, Croatian

6

u/Tasty-Sky7040 2d ago

I agree but their ideology is global now. So nazism is internalised by alot of cultures

4

u/VuckoPartizan 2d ago

But that's just fascism. Nazism is a flavor of facism. Like the facists in Croatia couldn't be nazi because they are Croatian. So they are Croatian facists.

This is why I don’t engage in diaspora wars.

2

u/Stopwatch064 2d ago

Once you catch someone doing this they are unlikely to get caught again. asablackman used to be brimming with content but you know who won't put pictures of their arm while pretending to be melanated after getting caught the first time.

u/FueledByKoolaid 2d ago

I’m genuinely curious how those accounts that seemingly are actual humans manage to comment and respond to every single viral tweet.

Not only are they under every tweet, they’re there within 1-3 hours before it actually blows up.

17

u/RxHotdogs 2d ago

You can filter by new and just scroll from there. If you want karma, find some videos on a heavily populated sub and just post generic comments.

20

u/Gravelsack 2d ago

"Hahahaha I just spit coffee all over my cat! Thanks for the laugh, kind stranger 😂😂😂"

12

u/jeffykins 2d ago

Yo I'm real and I still make comments close to this

3

u/DLottchula 👱🏿Black Guy™ who wants a Romphim 2d ago

Might just wanna not comment

5

u/RxHotdogs 2d ago

Pretty much this exact thing lol. I’ve done it on accident a few times. Not realize I’m scrolling latest and wake up to a stupid comment with 1-3k upvotes.

Dead Internet theory is becoming more and more true every day

6

u/Gods_chosen_dildo 2d ago

I noticed this after the debate, I expected it to be talked about a lot, but the internet was plastered with abject doomerism that could only be bots

6

u/Jpc5376 2d ago

I only argue online for entertainment at work... taking a poop.

5

u/ElPrieto8 ☑️ 2d ago

Boss makes a dollar, I make a dime

That's why I poop, on company time...

4

u/Intelligent_West7128 2d ago

That’s a stream farm.

3

u/No_Mortgage3189 2d ago

You don’t need to know this in order to realize the math of every single tik tok video, (despite how obscure the subject is) having 10m views doesn’t make any sense.

2

u/PitytheOnlyFools 2d ago

Either that or 13-year olds

2

u/Expensive_King_4849 2d ago

I was in the r/millennials telling them stop wasting time arguing with these people.

u/Longjumping_Hour_491 2d ago

"if I'm living with a man and we going 50/50 on bills I'm gonna date other bots!"

All they needed to do was create virtual phones 🤪

1

u/cool_cockroach23 9h ago

Can they just make the bots nice and understanding, for once? The internet would be such a fun place (oh yknow, as it was intended to be?) if the majority of it’s users weren’t a bunch of ignorant baboons.
